Getting crickets here so far haha!
That’s exactly why I made a poll, just to guage whether it’s worth doing.

You gotta wait for longer than 1 hour. That’s how long it takes me to start doing the dishes, stop in the middle, forget what I was doing, and then start again.
Haha!
I voted but my fat thumb hit just slightly wrong.
I Would!! buy.
Sorry to mess up your poll.
I think the work Vega and yourself put into yoyos is incredible.
I’m in the uk, would it still be ~$50. Put me down for 1 please.
Edit: found a way to change my vote
Well here they are. I’ve named this model the John Smith.
They are a very generic butterfly shape, but they perform very nicely.
Would they be better with just the usual SW on them?
No .

Fair enough. Ah… It’s just too generic a design, isn’t it. I mean, it plays well and can be made quickly, but lacks appeal.
I think beauty lies in simplicity. And the full logo balances out the flair.
Honestly, maybe a little, but that is also the charm of it. I also love the full wood flat face, so beautiful. And heck yea with the full engraving.
One thing I’m finding useful about the John Smith is that I can use tiny pieces of old wood I have that have been laying around for ages.
They take short enough time to make that I can make one out of a different wood most nights this week.
This one is white oak.
I’m not sure if this post is worthy of the Official Manufcturer’s News thread, so I’ll just post it here.
Today I have begun making a run of Buttons that I will be sending to YYE in around a month.
The woods will include, white oak, zebrawood, purpleheart, wenge, Spectra Ply and red gum. One or two of the woods may change depending on how it works out.
How much do you expect the yoyo to cost?
About $50
I made a John Smith out of Southern silky oak just to test the wood to see how well it turns and spins. Its really hard to tell in the photos, but the wood has a really nice speckled grain and a kind of iridescent quality. It’s a really nice wood. It’s 38g.
I’m loving light yoyos lately, 42g is the new 50g.
That wood is really spectacular looking, @Glenacius_K. I can imagine how it’s iridescent in person.
What do you think it would look like with some sort of oil finish? In your experience, do oil finishes affect play much?
I used to always oil my yoyos, but I don’t anymore. I may end up oiling this one just to see if it makes the grain really pop.
Oil can affect play. Kyle liked every oiled KNack prototype less than the unoiled ones. It can make the string interact with the wood differently.
Also, because yoyos are a handled object, the oil will be replaced with your own hand oils eventually anyway.
That’s right - now I remember reading that about the KNack. Makes sense.
It’s cool how play gradually and naturally oils the raw wood anyway - it’s a satisfying process to see a record of your play manifest on the yoyo itself. A record of time we’ll spent (or ‘spin’t lol).
I made my smallest ever fixed axle yoyo today. It has a diameter of about 44.5mm. It’s also the first wooden yoyo I have made with a metal axle. I gave it a 1/4" AL axle so to keep the diameter of it down without compromising on durability.
Because it’s made from an incredibly dense Aussie wood called gidgee, at this size it still weighs just over 50g.
The yoyo it is pictured next to n is a Harbinger.
