That is awesome. I absolutely love it.
do the external holes help with the response?
The external holes are the end of the response holes drilled from the inside.
The through-hole response has 3 functions. It reduces the weight of the yoyo, allowing for heavier woods to be used and to be kept at a lower weight. The wenge wood one pictured is 53.2g. It would be close to 60g without the holes. They also reduce centre weight, which increases spin, even with a low weight variant like Spectra Button I made. Lastly, they allow for knots to be picked out much more easily.
The oak one weighs 43.9g.
What I love about the Button is how goldilocksy it is. A wide range of woods can be used without the final product ending up too light or heavy. It opens up a lot of options and all feel great to play.
Are you listing any of these buttons on the BST soon or possibly sending some to yye?
I hope to slowly make a run of them over the next couple of months, if they want them.
I have ordered some wood for a run of buttons: purpleheart, zebrawood and more white oak.
@Glenacius_K how come we don’t see more walnut throws? I just got a walnut knack and it’s become my favorite fixie. I thought it would be too light but it just feels right in the hand while my beech knack feels light even though it’s heavier than the walnut.
Walnuts are my favorites as well.
Do you think you’ll try to make a Button with a dimple?
Walnut is beautiful wood. I just can’t find any pieces suitable for making yoyos. The stuff I have tends to yield yoyos that are too light.
I won’t make a Button with a dimple. It would ruin it’s aesthetic and simplicity.
You should just do a button mystery box for all the different woods you use.
I’d love that. But the Spectra one will cost a lot more.
that grain is superb.
