Perfect weight! 50g
It should make a Ballsy about 62-65g
Oak axle?
Yrs, but I could make a Spectraply axle. I’m not sure how that would be like though.
Probably durable? Response…?
I have a couple of bases with “Rockwood Necks” I can’t find it online, but found Phenolic Plywood. That doesn’t quite seem the same though.
Greg Curbow, who made the basses said that the company that made it, took 40 sheets of thin wood, and soaked them in phenolic resin. Then they took the sheets and pressed them together while baking them at 450 degrees Fahrenheit. The wood was compressed to 1/2 its original thickness. The result was a super strong composite material that is much more resistant to weather changes, and deosn’t have dead spots like wood necks can, but still has some of the tonal characteristics of wood.
I used to wonder about it for a yoyo, but I think it would be too dense. Also, he told me that they had dropped a neck on the concrete floor once, and he said it shattered like glass!
It should be durable, but not entirely sure. I’m not sure if the twist applied to the axle in throwing would separate the ply or not.
I’m pretty impressed with the toughness of Spectraply though. It’s definitely a strong material.
That phenolic wood sounds super tough!!
SpectraPly Harbinger.
I’m no so sure I will cut the ply this way again, it reveals a lot of colour inconsistency in the birch.
That’s gorgeous. What’s up with your yoyos sometimes looking like food?
There will be some @Myk_Myk bait posted here tomorrow morning. Just waiting for the epoxy to dry…
I really like that. Dang dude all the stuff Im seeing lately has got such a POP to it. Bravo
How much did the harbinger end up weighing?
I think that looks stunning!
Gorgeous as always. Your making some beautiful pieces of functional art. Keep it up.
Just over 50g.
Holy balls(y). You’ve got to stop man. My pocket book can’t handle it.
Another object, simple but efficient, that came out of my Ceriani lathe a couple of years ago.
Made almost as a joke from a leftover wood, it plays “miraculously” very well … Luck sometimes …
Haha! It’s a pretty funny yoyo for sure, but I like it.
Which would you like to see next on the YYE store from me?
