For a while lately, I have been thinking about making a very small fixed axle yoyo. I have also wanted to make a yoyo out of a type of wood I have called gidgee, which is the third hardest wood in the world and only marginally softer that the hardest.
I decided the best way to achieve both of these goals was in one yoyo.
Made of gidgee, this yoyo is only 47mm in diameter, yet still weighs in at almost 56g.
It’s plays very well and has no obvious shortcomings. I made sure the inner most wall was the same height as the Harbinger’ s to insure proper winding and regenerations.
I have taken some photos of It next to the Orphan for size comparison.
If I may take another crack at it, “Boombera”, maybe? Evidently, macadamia nuts are the hardest nut to crack, and that appears to be one of the words the indigenous people of eastern Australia used for it. Looks like there’s several other words as well, according to Wikipedia.
