Should the string wrap around my index finger during barrel rolls?

I’m not sure if I’m doing them correctly. When doing them the string wraps around my index finger - when dropping the yoyo there is no knots. Am I doing this correctly?

That always threw me off too. I couldn’t figure out what i was doing wrong.

Lol was a little confusing for sure

but the exciting part then is that a simple starter combo is rolling then reversing and unrolling to unwrap, or just drop the wraps whichever you prefer
