The shutter is good, you’ll probably like it
yes it has been surpassed with newer designs, but it is a classic for a reason,
I think most people should own a shutter
just pick a colour you like and its unlikely you’ll regret getting one ![]()
Get the yoyo you’re excited to use. Sometimes I’m more amped to use my first base and modded butterfly XT instead of my sugar glider, which is a way better yoyo. I play the one that sounds fun. And I have fun every time.
what reason?![]()

I would skip the Shutters an go for the Jigun Onigokko3, a 6061 monometal for $35. It’s smokes almost everything at that price point. Jigun makes some of the best affordable throws in Japan is a sub brand of LEP. Onigokko3 is slightly smaller than the Wilderness 7075 competes well against it has a nicer inverse shape and softer feel. Super stable comes with extra items for the money.
I will go and check it out. Thanks!![]()

There is no best. One might suit you better than another but that’s something only you can know, either via intuition or experience.
I have one question, did yo-yo Factory stop making the Shutter?![]()

I mean you can still get it here on YYE, even have a choice of colors:
so yoyo Factory stoped making them?
I’m not sure, I was just letting you know if you did still want a brand spankin’ new one they are available here.
I have not heard any talks of them stopping production of them. It’s kind of a flagship for them in a way, since Gentry is like the YoYo marketing God, it would be an interesting choice to end production of it. But as mentioned, it is a dated design, and he has moved on to market his own line/ brand within YoYoFactory (YoYoChampion)
Does anybody think I can go farther with my skills with Shutter over the Helix or the other way around?
Changed my mind, I will think about the SPEEDAHOLIC MN. Better than the shutter, plus it has finger spin cup.![]()

you can literally do any trick invented today with either of them
you’ll just need to practice
Does any body think the shutter wide angle is too big for my small hands or should I get the OG shutter?.![]()

Hand size doesn’t matter as much as you think. The first metal yoyo I bought was a YoTricks Summer Solstice. Good looking, good price, and I learned a lot with it. Having a yoyo that is cheaper and can take a beating is important when starting out.
Helix is probably a good way to go because it’s cheaper than Shutter by $20 (I understand $50 is a good chunk of change for a kid, I didn’t wanna spend that much for my first metal), has beefy rings for both power and durability (it’ll be less likely to develop permanent vibe after drops, fingernail vibe is fine), and comes in some gorgeous colors.
It doesn’t have to be perfect, but it’s good to start with. Don’t go for a yoyo that hurts to buy only to find out that you don’t like it.
And speaking of the OG Shutter they stoped making them in Yoyo Factory and YoyoChampion.com? how come? They been like this for two months or so.
I assume they don’t have enough sells. It’s already had more runs than the vast majority of yoyos. In yoyo, it’s typical that a company will make a run and if it’s popular, maybe one or two more runs. The manufacturing of one model, year after year, is pretty unusual.
