So, today was a much-awaited day, today I recieved my new SPYY Ronins, one of each of the new releases… So exciting!!

Waiting for me when I got home from work, and I eagerly tore into the package, which also included a magnificent 3Y3 Omnicron (more on that later)…

Anyway, after opening each Ronin, I did my usual routine, hand unwind the stock string, and check it for length, lengths were fine; then I wound it up and let the yoyo fall into a freefall unforced slow spin, then picked the string up and watched the yoyo spin closely; then, satisfied, Id bind it and prepare for the fabled First Throw…

SNAP

BAM POW. Bobbity bobbity bobble bobble Wobble CLUNK…

stunned silence

the unthinkable had happened… the stock string broke on the very first throw… while I was over carpet, the yoyo managed to careem off the desk drawer, the hardware on the drawer, and across the floor, to come to rest some 12 feet away against my entertainment center…

what the Buck…

Okay, Okay… Ive been yoyoing for a while now… it SUCKS but these things happen… geez… Of ALL the yoyos… dammit dammit dammit… okay okay… Im okay… so I pick the yoyo up, cringe at seeing the now dinged surface, then after a cursory inspection of the walls and bearing seat, I re-string the yoyo with GOOD string (!@#$@#!!) and try again… gingerly…

and Im rewarded with a wonderfully satisfying hum… all is well… so i play around with it for a little bit. This is sweet. its all good.

(this was the Ocean Blue Ronin)

Okay… on to the next… which, happens to be the Blue Acid Wash… the usual inspection, though I did give the string a good tug and inspected it for frays… looks new… These are Kitty Strings, are they not? Okay… drop… spin spin… inspect… Approve… wind up…

Throw…

FWUMPH bounce bounce bounce roll roll rollll… clank *

Okay… NOW Im MAD.

Immediately, I grab the third (Grey Acid Wash) Ronin yoyo and take it apart… remove the stock string and fling it to the nearest trash container… then, leaving the Blue Acid Wash on the floor, ( I dont WANT to know…) re-string the yoyo, and give it a very light breakaway… then inspect the vibe, smoothness, etc etc etc… this one is okay… then I bind, and throw… all is well… this really is a nice yoyo when its not doing a Wile E Coyote across the floor…

But GEEZ…

What the heck??? When I finally go pick up the 2nd yoyo, Im now angry that there is yet ANOTHER ding… on a perfectly new yoyo…

What an afternoon… is it my fault? no way to tell… do I throw a fit at YYN? or at SPYY? nah… Im just frustrated I spent this kind of money for this kind of result…

but that said, yeah… your stock strings SUCK, whoever it may concern…

That’s actually why I just put on my own string right from the get-go. Sucks to see this happen :frowning:

Hey Buck, try contacting me when you have a problem. You’d be surprised how eager I am to help out. I’m a little surprised that you’d rather post this bad news on multiple forums before allowing me the opportunity to help you out. Sheesh.

i heard to never use stock string and always put your own prefered string on the yoyo

To clarify ( as it appears I need to, on multiple forums… ) I dont hold Steve or anyone else at fault for this occurence. I just thought it was so outlandish and unlikely that I would share it… The yoyos are fine, and while I may not know exactly what caused it, Im versed enough to know that sometimes, these things happen.

the thing about replacing the string from the getgo, i never do that. i like to try out new string. what i do though, is i play it over a cushy carpet, big room, not many hard obsticles, and aim it where there is the most space/cushion. this has happened to me once where the stock string broke, but it was on a plastic yoyo, and nothing bad happened.

Well, it happened to me today, but not with the stock string

I was at home and didn’t bing it thankfully

the other day i was throwing and my string got caught in between the sides of bearing. when i fixed it, i threw it and my day old Yuuksta went flying accross the gym :cry: . but strangely there isnt a mark on the yoyo :smiley:

this “danger” acutally makes me love the ronin even more

it’s my favorite throw by far, not the best or easiest, just the one with the most “soul”

well I got my Midnight Blue Ronin and used the stock string. As I wasn’t wowed by it and kinda dissappointed in it since the rave reviews I got from my Buddy that had the Prepro.

I removed the crappy string(luckily it didn’t break) just very loose in my experience. Loose binds poor throws. I put on a new string and better it was but still not wowed the bearing seemed wierd to out it came and in a KK went. THis is now my Throw of choice. I love it. Landed my First entire Black hops with it.

Sad to see you new babys got hurt on there madien flight. I think I would have cried.

man I seem to be the only one who really loves it THAT much, it’s not my #1 played but that’s because I lack the skill, so I play it only a few times a day. But definitely my favorite out of all the yoyos I have

My preferred string usually is the stock string…

Anyway, has anyone examined the area around the bearing seat and response groove to make sure that it’s not too harshly blasted like the 2nd run PunchLines? I’ve seriously never had a polyester string snap on me so hearing about stuff like this really surprises me.

OOOoooo… that really sucks. Well, at least you have one in perfect condition.
Someone must have “accidently” snipped the strings before you started playing.

Thats absurd. The ONLY reason I can come up with the reason for this is if SPYY buys their their strings buy the thousands, and store them in a relatively moist environment. That could rot the string if it was an old bundle of string. I don’t know about the other Ronins with out bad string. See any black cats lately? :-\

Wow!!! Even though Ive completely reiterated that I really didnt feel it was warranted, Steve is SO very awesome enough to send me a brand new Pink Pro as consolation for this little episode. How great is that!?

Whats funny is, just the other day, I was bemoaning the fact that I had not yet tried a Pro yet… then BAM, there it is in the mailbox.
