Reverse Buyers Remorse

Ever have reverse buyers remorse - when you didn’t buy something you woulda shoulda coulda bought?

I’ve been considering getting a newer car and narrowed in on a make, model and year. One came up at a local dealer a week and a half ago. Debated about it for a couple of days. Then a viable alternative came on the market for less money. Debated some more over this distraction. Went through the numbers and back and forth. Looked up the alternative on the other dealer’s website last nite and saw that it was gone. That made my decision to pull the trigger on my initial choice. This morning, contacted the dealer and it was gone. Aaarrrgghhh. :disappointed:

Oh… about 2 dozen stock ticker symbols from last March immediately come to mind. Could have bought almost anything and double or tripled your money. :money_with_wings:

Yep, been there done that too. My father-in-law was an accountant for a local electronics store called Sound Of Music. He called me up one day in 1969 and said two of his clients were looking for investors, one of which was Sound of Music. The other was some HVAC company that had a patent on some type of non-polluting incinerator. Both were a dollar a share. We gave him $1000 to invest. Guess which one he picked…

Sound of Music

Best Buy is currently trading at about $120 a share and was at least twice that in the last few years. The HVAC place went out of business in about 1975.

Well if it makes you feel any better, $1,000 invested in Best Buy on 4/21/1985 would only be worth a measly $1,032,000 roughly – after accounting for stock splits and dividend reinvestment. Chump change really.

Limited release green Hummingbird. I wanted it but hated to spend that much money. Hesitated, and boom, gone.

I had the same thing happen to me when buying the Leo Sniper Mk II a while back. Was trying to not pull the trigger on a colorway in order to deliberate more but when I wanted to buy it, it was gone. Ended up paying for for it as well.

I went to McDonalds earlier in the week with my kiddo. I got a Spicy Chicken Sandwich, he got a Quarter Pounder… but, deep inside… like even before we got there, I’d already kinda knew I wanted the Filet-o-Fish instead. I haven’t stopped thinking about it since…

Oh how I wish, how I wish, I got Filet-o-Fish

But the chicken sandwich is better than the filet-o-fish. I tried one (the filet-o-fish) a few years ago and it was just meh. The spicy chicken sandwich is the best thing at McDonalds. Imo you should have went to Burger King and got their crispy chicken sandwich instead. Or Chick-fil-a I guess, both are better than McDonalds.

As for not pulling the trigger in FOMO stuff, this happens a ton with yoyo for me. I go, “if it is still in stock tomorrow when im able to make a conscious sober decision, im buying it”, and then it ends up being sold out and I miss out.

When it comes to buying cars, I am fed up with shopping around for the most practical, most reliable, and best priced. I always wanted a WRX growing up, but considering it isn;t the most practical or reliable car I ended up never getting one. Landed a decent job about a year and a half ago, needed a car, and bought a new one off the lot. It gives me satisfaction on a daily basis, which is much more than I can say for my old trusty Civic. I spend a lot of time in my car (1+ hour commute, 60 miles one way) and find the extra money spent on the car and premium gas to be worth it.

Yes, I quit buying frugal cars a long time ago. :grinning:

Heh, I just figured you were one of those typical boomers who shopped for the best deal possible on the most practical ride to replace the broken down POS you currently had.
