Quitting

Quitting smoking was one of the most difficult things I’ve ever had to do, as well as one of the most rewarding. I’d be a liar if I didn’t say it was rough, because it was. Those first couple of months it took everything I had to not start up again. So if you’re still fighting the urge, you’re not alone. Everyone who has ever successfully quit smoking went through it too. But just like how you got yourself caught up in the habit, it is only a matter of time before not smoking becomes your routine.

From one quitter to another, here’s my advice:

-Substitute your habit with other things, like chewing gum, sunflower seeds, etc.
-Avoid situations and/or people who might tempt you to smoke again, at least until you have more control over your urges.
-Reward yourself when you reach certain milestones for not smoking.

Eventually, this won’t even be something that you think about. When you stop keeping track of how many days/weeks/months it has been since the last time you had a cigarette, you will know for sure that you have finally won the battle. Best of luck to you. 8)

It can and is being done. It’s not so bad really. I’m enjoying the positive side effects.

Remember the reward, Waylon. Remember…the…reward. Not only a trigger, but also a better life all together.

You can do it! Imagine how many less health problems you will have!

Come on you know you want that trigger

Week three is a wrap for real this time. I’m on my way to the local Planet Fitness. I joined two days ago. Yeah it’s a weird time to be going to the gym, but I keep odd hours.

I’m not sure if I can articulate this thought concisely, or well, but I will try: I’m an adult with a good paying job. However, I don’t throw nearly as well as the majority of you so I find it difficult to justify spending a ton of money on yoyos. To boot, over the last few months I’ve managed to bst my modest collection into one that has nothing but yoyos I like in it. I’m happy with it. My wants list is pretty short. Buying myself a trigger after a month smoke free was my way of making it okay for me to blow $30.

This endeavor stopped being a means to a new yoyo the second stookie offered me his trigger. I have an idea that maybe he would have offered a lot more than that to see me quit smoking. And then all of you showed all this support. I don’t want stookie’s trigger because I want a trigger. I want stookie’s trigger because it will be a fine reminder of how much people, strangers really, can care about someone they don’t really know. I’m glad I posted my goal on here. Letting you all down would have been heart breaking to me. I plan on taking the trigger to places and events where I know I’ll be tempted. When that urge hits, I’ll throw like my life depends on it.

Time to hit the gym. Thanks everyone.

Yeah go to the gym!

It’s great to see humanity shine through, past barriers, past borders.

It is indeed

agreed ;D

Its good to see how dedicated you are to the cause. Because I see people tell me they are going to quit but they just give in. Its good to see you already reap the benefits of quitting.
I mean you save lots of money from the cost of cigarettes, and you live a healthier lifestyle!

All that money you save on Cigarettes can be put towards yoyos, or music supplies!

Or paying off bills, which is pretty satisfying when you’re trying to be a responsible adult  you gotta think, $180 a month on those things. That’s twice my electric bill. Most of my car payment. Almost twice my car insurance. Most of a child support payment. A few weeks worth of groceries. Gas for a month and a half. The list goes on and on.

The ironic thing is, I joined a gym where $21.39 a month gets me access to tons of equipment, unlimited free personal training, unlimited red light therapy, unlimited tanning, unlimited massage chairs and hydro massage therapy, and 24 hour access. $180 is almost 9 months of what it takes to become healthy and fit and with some luxuries thrown in. Weird.

Fat stinky guy who coughs a lot and spends a lot of time outside his apartment smoking = $180/month

Fit, tanned, energetic guy who sleeps well and will outlive the fat stinky guy by a decade or more = $21.39/month

Any smokers want to check my math?

It looks like your not turning back now!

Good for you remember the month is almost over! Better order that trigger soon…

I’m pretty much only ever on here on my phone, so I miss some things. Like signatures. Abby, I just noticed your avatar thingy. Very cool

Thanks

I quit when I was 13, and again at 14. It has been a year without a cigarette. YoYo’s really took me out of the influence!
(Influence in general)

So what you said is you smoked for a year?
