That would be awesome. I need a 3d printer…

You better believe it.

Don’t really like my plastic peak. Fulvia is better

I do not agree.
a telephone is not designed to be thrown or played, a yoyo is.
a yoyo is certainly not created to be continually crashed to the ground but it is expected that it can bump and fall… the plastic peak is a yoyo that can be very suitable for 5A play and like all other yoyos it must still guarantee adequate resistance to its usage.
if they are sporadic cases then they are defective specimens but if instead it concerns many specimens (and both from what has been written and from the minimum thickness that can be seen from the photos it would suggest this) then it means that it is a design error and in that case it seems that not much has been learned from the Fulvia bimetal.

Fair point. I know of my incident and one other. Thousands have been sold. It is possible many others have experienced this and not said anything, or that everyone is more careful than me and that one other person, or that it is just a fluke.

I do stand corrected though, and I appreciate that.

ā€œTalked to Jeff, we’re still well below the normal ā€œdefective rateā€ for a run of plastic yoyos. Anyone who has an issue just has to email him (@jeffreypang911 ) through the Luftverk site for a replacement. Not worried. :slightly_smiling_face:ā€

Knowing how jeff handled the hybrids I believe they would do what they can to make it right still probably can salvage part of the broken yoyo at least as a mod for something else

I am sending it to yoyospirit for him to have fun with and included my OG Dang in a trade for a mystery box of some plastic throws (I haven’t tossed plastic in forever, very excited.)

Multiple people told me to email Pang about a replacement. I don’t believe I deserve one, but emailed him anyway to bring it to his attention, and adamantly told him that I don’t expect a replacement because I bought it second hand and it was my fault for dropping it, but if he sends one I am thankful nonetheless.

Got the broken plastic peak halves in the mail. Will be repairing it soon! So the reason for the plastic breaking at this area is I imagine the injection molded halves weren’t meant to have a recess this deep if it was the same stock used for the other Luftverk plastics. The deeper recess just resulted in the plastic encasing the metal insert becoming very thin, and prone to breaking. I don’t foresee it being an issue in the other Luftverk plastics using a 19mm standard size pad.

Iā€˜m getting The End vibes.

Haha hopefully not! For future runs, if they recessed the depth to be 1mm less that would go a long way in the durability of the product. But if as Steve said, the failure rate is indeed on the low end, then I guess it’s not worth addressing.

Sad to report #PleakGate has claimed another victim: me

Missed a whip, bonked on vinyl floor & voila, baby. Already reached out to Jeff about it (he’s the best and is already sending a replacement), just wanted to informatively update this thread since I know it’s happened to 2 others now (and all around the same recent span of time which is interesting?)

Hmmm, I guess they all Peaked around the same time…

i think the pleak got a design flaw around the hub

started cracking and is spreading but still playable and no noticeable vibe yet
should have left off the nipple?

I don’t have a Pleak, but I just noticed my 000 is cracked. I got it around February or so, and really haven’t thrown it much. So I put it back in the box for safe keeping. I was going to bring it out since I’ve been on a bit of an organic kick and…

You can see a few other small cracks spidering out from the center.

Damn… brings me back to the good ol YYJ days. Super fun yoyos, but this wasn’t exactly an uncommon occurrence with them.

All this is the fate of any injection moulded plastic yoyo with the metal guts molded in. They will all split/crack sooner or later.

Machined plastic yoyos from rod don’t suffer from this.

The reason is that the polycarbonate and aluminium expands and contract at different rates with temperature. Because they are molded in, there is little room to allow for this.

The falling apart at the guts issue is also because the metal needs to be extended out and over the hub for maximum durability, e.g. the caps used with cabal guts.
