Permatex 22074 Ultra Grey for very unresponsive return system

Still need to find what’s the right amount of recess, definitely too much here…
The binds are not tight enough.

It might not be the right amount but it sure looks professional.

Got a new guitar pick which recesses it nicer than my last so I decided to silicone all my throws while I was at it

Has anyone ever ultra greyed a freehand one? My response is starting to get slippy on fly aways. I have a pair of response pads for it but I’m curious how ultra grey is compared to the stock pads. I feel like keeping it stock in this scenario may be better but I’m not sure.

I have my FH1 stock in terms of pad and bearing and just add thick lube as needed when my fly away dismounts start to get a little unresponsive.

Silicone isn’t going to last long in the friction sticker groove before falling out, and silicone in the small pad groove is gonna wear down and go extra unresponsive real fast. You can try but as a long term solution I think you’re better off just using thick lube with the stock setup as needed.

Thanks for the response. I won’t try that out then ha. I got a pair of stock replacement response pads anyway. I go through phases where my freehand will be playing great and other times where sometimes it wont come up on the first or second tug and wont fly away return. When I lube it, it seems to fix it for a little but goes away within a hour or two of play. I recently tried using thicker string and it seemed to help a bit but not completely. I been trying to figure out what it is, it was playing perfect a week or so ago. You think cleaning the bearing and lubing it could make it better maybe?

Imma let someone more familiar with the Yoyo than me answer but an hour or two and back to low response doesn’t seem right. I use Vaseline for thick lube but it’s kinda annoying bc It’s messy.

I’d say it’s definitely time to change the pads. How long have those pads been on it?

I was thinking that but wasn’t sure honestly. It’s been about 7 months, I use it alot. It doesn’t seem to have a huge dip to the bottom like when my unresponsive pads have been worn. Is it different with responsive pads since you kinda need more grip?

I don’t own a Freehand so I can’t say for sure but looking at the pictures it seems that new pads stick out a fair amount where unresponsives typically have pads that sit flush or even recessed. So if those pads are flush they my not look like they’re worn when in fact they are.

I like tossing some silicone grease my preference is traxxas but there’s cheaper stuff.

Also had a hookup on some brain lube which works great. Really allows me to decide how I want my responsive to function with a few different options. I’ve also got thin lube but that’s just for the unresponsive throws

I’m basically just going to echo what everybody else is saying here. I actually use silicone grease personally, but I do find brain lube to get the job done well though. It just doesn’t last as long.

Alternatively you could try installing one or both friction stickers if you haven’t already.

i used ultra gray to make it less responsive…

I don’t know about ultra grey maybe if you filled the recess to the top. I know clear flowable will give you a very grippy response.

These turned out shockingly grippy. Prob going to do a deeper recess next time but it might just be the gap width of the damian pucketts making them grab so much

Sometimes mine are grippier while the sili is still rough like maybe play them a bit more and that could help or probably just needs a deeper recess too like it takes a bit of experimenting to get the recess depth perfect. I’m kicking myself because I went too deep last time and now I gotta redo it soon.

Play them for a while, RTV has an actual break in period.

They’ll seem excessively grippy while you wear down the initial bumps and ridges from the application. They get significantly less grippy after a few days. Definitely worth experimenting with how much you recess, but don’t judge your application until you’ve put a few days of solid play on them.
