OVERrated yoyos

We need t bring this thread back. Before its necroing. 888x.

If you’ve tried them… you know that they’re absolute perfection.

But, anything YYF, plastic YYJ’s (I’ve heard only bad things about the metals so I can’t really put them here), metal duncans.

Taken straight from the respected 66 rules of yoyoing

  1. don’t go out of your way to vilify this or that company. support the ones that you feel benefit the community and yo-yoing in general. that’s enough.

I’m not saying those are bad. I’m saying they’re overrated. They’re good yoyos. But people think they’re a lot better than they really are. I can give you a link to the definition of overrated, if you like.

no.

They may be priced high, but they are worth every penny.

I have 2, but I feel like I need 20. They’re that good.

nearly every metal is outrageoulsy overpriced actually. as some of us may know, manufacture’s acutally buy the yoyos from a machine shop at about $10 a pop. maybe they sell it to the store for maybe $30-40 and gives them all a M.S.R.P. or (manufacture’s suggested retail price) in FACT it only cost an un-named friend of mine $120 to get 6 halves (3 yoyos) machined for himself

i don’t know about U guys, but i’m gonna start hittin up the machin shops.

of course you have to know how to draw up a yoyo…

While that’s true, the thread is ‘overrated’ not ‘overpriced’

Why is everyone saying 888x? I haven’t seen a lot of people “glorifying” it. And besides, everyone knows the 07’s were by far the best 888s

There are circumstances to that though. I’ve done it and I got no where near $10 per throw. Now maybe he got a good deal because the machinist either knew him or his family or he just thought it was neat so he did it cheap. If he was struggling then he may have done it cheap just to make the money. It happens. Just because one or two people got it for cheap doesn’t mean everyone can or does. Like I said, There are circumstances.

I tink everyone says this because none of the 888’s have lived up to the 07’s standard, because the 07 was amazing.

Yeah. That’s about right.

Almost every yoyo is overrated for the first month after it’s released. Then it’s just the rare and the pricey that everyone hypes, it’s more of a “haha look what I have, bet you can’t find one,” kind of thing.

Not really… a lot of yoyos that get the most hype actually play pretty well. like the code 1 is just first thing that comes to mind. that thing plays amazingly.
and if you’ve ever thrown a yyr, then you’d see that they’re not just a haha look what I have, but more of a wow, this is amazing (probably. I mean that’s what I was like first time I tried one. everyone’s entitled to their own opinion though)

to put out some of this hate on YYF, they are, as I’ve been noticing, making up for the ridiculously hyped yoyos with very nice, solid players.

I personally own a Nova, and before it had issues, I can say I’ve never thrown something that was undersized that I fell in love with (not counting Steamroller. That goes in superwide category IMO), and it was just such a beastly player.

YYF hypes alot, I will say that, but I think overrated doesn’t mean it’s just liked by so many people. It means, to me, that the yoyo is ridiculously liked but is a piece of crap. I heard the BSP was absolutely terrible and it is still sought after. The thing that pops in my mind when I think overrated is any yoyo that plays average and has a ridiculously high price, and people pay for it because “it’s a premium” yoyo. What about those mid-range priced yoyos that outperform it? Where do they fit in?

And YYF has released some bad throws over the years. No offense, guys. But you know what, Supernova, Nova, Supernova Lite, 888.11, ONE, WHIP, TWO, G5, Protostar, Northstar, Starlite, etc…

Before YYF gets any more crap, you can’t judge a company because you don’t like the PEOPLE. THE YOYOS ARE WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. Think about it. I hear why people won’t buy YYF. They don’t like this throw. They say they’re all the same. Trust me, they’re not. I’ve thrown the Severe '10 many times now, and it is one floaty yoyo. The Nova… was more SOLID! The G5? Solid/floaty and stable!

So, I leave with this. Unless you’ve literally thrown every yoyo YYF has made, and can say that people buy it even if it’s crap, then okay. THat’s your opinion. But until then, keep an opinion that is based on 2 yoyos to yourself.

what’s the two? o.O

and just saying, a lot of yyf yoyos aren’t particularly unique. Don’t get me wrong, I still love them. I have a pretty decent amount of yyf yoyos. just they do tend to produce a pretty steady stream of yoyos, most of which aren’t really special. Just an example, the shape of the protostar, northstar, starlite, rockstar, protoge, and maybe a few others are pretty similar. they all have that same angular shape. Whereas companies like werrd or 3yo3 try to make things new and exciting, offering more variety and difference of play.

and I agree with that. However, their new yoyos, with the exception of the very different Nova line, they have been unique.

And, it’s really the 2.0, but whatever haha. Anyway, it’s a metal they only are releasing in physical stores.

Overrated: Any YYF; primarily the Star series (Starlite not included), Superstar, Super G, and Skyline. Some CLYW stuff.
Worthless: The Monster or superwide

say what?
Have you ever thrown a monster? with a good throw, they’re ridiculously smooth, and great at grinds. plus it makes it nearly impossible to miss a lot of normally hard catches. and almost impossible to miss an eli hop. :stuck_out_tongue:

@halbach
ohhh the 2.0. okay, gotcha. haha
and yeah, their new stuff has been pretty great. everyone else can bag on them all they want, I’ll still love 'em.

Think the ywet was kinda overrated…I played one at worlds two years ago and no where near met my expectations based on what other people were saying about it

X-convict, i hate mine get a dark magic instead. The x-con is way to responsive and shoots back to your hand or at least mine does when you even do a trapeze.
