You can have my YWET (ok, but for a price…), but it will be a cold day in Hades before you’ll pry my Canvas from my cold, dead fingers.
I LOVE the Canvas. It is one of those special throws. IMHO. If you have not thrown one - try it.
I agree that the DM is overrated. I mean who really uses the thin bearing really? I guess if you are doing the trick-ladder or something. But why would I want to use a responsive, or partially responsve yoyo to do modern tricks? Unless I stick to “around the world” and junk like that - I risk major finger smack anytime I mix in a modern trick. Ever try to do a matrix with the thin bearing? Ouch!
If you take away the “Its versatile” thing - which is totally overrated, it is just a traditional shaped yoyo that is moderately good for modern yoyoing. Give me a Speeder2 any day!
Everyone has to take a trip up the ladder, and that DM gets you up there quicker IMO because it’s forgiving in the sense that the response is great, and you can hit a few things and that DM is still sleeping. Speeder 2…? Too light, about $15 more, thin bearing too…still can’t touch the DM…but to each his own. That DM will always be in with my mains. DM for life lol. I have three…I’m going to buy six more in case I have 9 lives, I’ve got one for each. The only one in that price range second to the DM IMO is the SR-71…second.
To each his own. I have the DM and SR-71. I’ll take the Speeder over both any day. But that is why they make different models. There is no accounting for taste.
I don’t understand why every one hates on YYF. They are incredibly popular because they make solid throws… A true over rated throw is the Duncan Butterfly… Every one and their brother has one of these, they run like a whopping 4 bucks, you can’t take them apart, they are stupid light and are hard to make spin, but they sell like hot cakes because of a name… Now the Duncan Profly is a solid fixed axle yoyo… They should replace the butterflies in walmarts and targets…
I agree. No matter how classic that Duncan Butterfly is…that $4 yoyo is useless IMO. You can add that imperial to the list too as far as I’m concerned. But, as you state, they can be found everywhere. Not the best way to represent a yoyo by today’s standards.
I personally wouldn’t consider the Duncan Butterfly and Imperial over rated. The fact that everyone one has one is due to the fact that these are the most available in stores. Parents will drop $4 on a yoyo for their kid to bang, spin, twirl, throw, play fetch with the dog.
Over rated implies that the yo’s reputation is greater than it is. I don’t hear many people claiming that Butterflies and Imperials are fantastic, super, wonderful yoyo’s. They’re just cheap and available so for many that’s their first yo.
If you read reviews on some popular shopping sites that I won’t name here…there are people who swear by those butterfly and imperial yoyos…the $4 ones. See for yourself. That, to me, makes them overrated.
Any YYR/Turning Point and CLYW to an extent is overrated to me IMO. But hey, keep throwing and buying whatever you want and have fun while you’re at it!
It is decent, but that’s all I keep hearing about. It’s always protostar Vs Northstar. YOu never hear about the starlite, which I like the best of the 3.
Another thing I’d have to say is the Canvas.
It’s a decent yoyo, but I don’t think it’s worth the upper limits that they sell them for. It’s a good player, but it’s nothing that wow’d me.
you’re entitled to your opinion, so don’t interpret this as me saying you’re wrong. lol
An a grade general yo is pretty much the smoothest thing I’ve ever felt. And they’re made entirely in the US by the way.
This seems to be a “Yoyos that did not live up to expectations /hype” rather than being overrated. Everyone has there own preferences and playstyles. A couple of years ago when they were all the rage I purchased a peak. I was very disapoonted because it did not live up to my high expectations, created by people raving about how awsome it played. I also figured that anything that sold out in two minutes had to be incredable. I was wrong. I don’t hate the way the peak plays, but its just another yoyo to me. I would rather play my 5 star or hany 2.
