Ok so i feel odd suggesting this to pretty much everyone in this thread… but you all should check out your local chiropractor. If you don’t like or respond to the first try another. There are alot of diffrent chiropractic styles and I’ll say they are all very safe (except that Y Strap guy on YouTube, he’s gonna kill someone! )… seriously I’m happy to answer Qs if anyone has i may even be able to help you find someone local. I Used to give away YoYos to my patients!
Gonna be 47, and if i throw for 2 hours streight I’ll be sore, but I’ll be fine in the morning, wish i had more 2 hour sessions lately honestly. Love reading all the Yogis and exercise and therapy posts and i recommend it all and do it myself.
@LX_Emergency i used to go to a judo school till chiropractic, and when i graduated he unfortunately closed the school and i just never found any other judo school. Good stuff!
I NEED to get back to it. My energy and my back took a real dump after I stopped. I was running and working on my core and I felt pretty good. But I had some setbacks and OH MY GEESE it’s hard to get back on the wagon.
I am sick currently and a few weeks out from my regular exercise because of traveling and a concussion and now laziness. But once I’m back on the wagon I’m gonna get an alignment. Dude worked wonders last time.
I love y strap videos though.
Dude jerks them like 2 feet up the table it’s crazy. I wonder if anyone has been hurt before? You ever done the y strap or had it done?
I used to go to a chiropractor then they got curious about a spot in my back and had me do a X-ray which lead to an mri which lead to surgery or eventual bowel movement lose. So I owe a chiropractor for taking the time to understand what was going on and not just adjusting hoping for the best till I had a more serious issue.
With that said the way my spine was messed up most chiropractors won’t touch me so it’s physical therapy or more surgery or pain pills and I absolutely don’t do pain pills.
However whatever gives you relief wether it’s chiropractic, PT or self exercise do something to work it out: letting it linger till it’s literally unbearable is not a solution
Fortunately I haven’t had that issue. I have found that in the last year and a half I’ve gained much more weight than I would have liked to. (been a couple of rough years losing my grandfather this time 2021 and my dad this past december 2022) so I haven’t been taking care of myself like I should. Eating poorly, drinking heavily (not an alcoholic) just having more beers through the week than I used to and eating junky food. But it shows, haha! I definitely feel less compelled to practice as long as I did before I just get uncomfortable standing still throwing for longer than 25 minutes.
I hate to say it but I feel like some of the issues with the neck and back pains probably stem from or at least contributed to staring at our dang phones and sitting poorly at the computer for extended periods of time. I know I catch my self hunching at the computer or workbench in my workshop and have to get a good stretch in and my spine will crackle and pop pretty good after wards. Definitely have to keep up on good posture.
Yeah good judo schools are a lot more scarce in the US from what i understand.
Over here in the Netherlands it’s fairly easy to find one. Almost every small town will have one.
That’s cause your using an 80 gram yoyo
I don’t have a problem as long as I pay attention to my posture, keep up my PT sessions and exercise classes on a regular basis, as well as make sure I take my dopamine regularly. Acupuncture works well too.
Also I hire out my lawn care. The girl does a nice job. She’s my grand daughter and we pay her well.
I use traction gently on my patients all the time, it’s great. I now work in a clinic which we specialize in a technique called spinal decompression which actually works wonders to reduce disc herniations.
But the Y strap guy scares me, if i tried that on anyone that i treat they would end up in the emergency room cause that is totally insane and dangerous.
Hah nah I usually use tachyon to practice big lacerations it’s just the like trying to whip the string super fast 1000 times part I think
I know what you mean I been sore the next day from trying to learn like Brent stole and hooks sometimes.
Lately this abdominal hernia I’m dealing with is driving me insane I gotta get it fixed.
I feel you on the back pain. I often have a tendency to lean over slightly when I yoyo which my back doesn’t like. So I take stretch breaks every so often and do twists along with some back stretches.
I also practice over gym mats so my feet don’t hurt from standing that long…
My shoulder will get to hurting if i throw to long. My back always hurts, that’s unrelated to yoyos.
Yeah man, I gotta say, when I first read the OP I was like “…when I yoyo, as opposed to when I wake up, when I take a dump, when I stand, when I breath…” I’m at that age where I wake up and think, “I wonder what’s not going to hurt today.”
As much as I hate physical therapy I gotta say it has helped me with my back pains.
I’m at the point where I go to the doctor and they ask “What DOESN’T hurt?”
I’m 32. I don’t care about lines in the yard. I skateboard, heely, game, and yoyo. I was getting arm pain when learning hooks but that faded when I figured out better technique. My problem is my hands. I have destroyed them falling on my board. The real problem is the arthritis/carpal tunnel from guitar and gaming. My right thumb hurts constantly and some days my wrist don’t have full rotation. When looping it feels like my middle finger will rip off. All we can do with issues like these is endure. Dont stop what you love doing and don’t feel bad that your getting older. I remind myself of lost friends/people that have it worst than me in life and it makes my issues seem meaningless. I accept the pain and smile as I tell people how amazing the yoyo is.
I think these may help some in here, if you’re interested. I’m 42, have always been active and athletic. Played basketball for years, considered making a run to play professionally, or semi-professional. Then I hurt my back, bad. After that happened I’ve been unable to do a lot of what I used to, it’s been a series of back injuries off and on for over a decade, making a lot of workout painful.
I’ve been working on getting my flexibility back, like @EZstreet said above. Wanted to recommend this book. It’s really great, Joe’s instagram is great as well.
Then I recently finished this book on Audible, which lead me to buying the physical book, and I’ll be reading it again. I’m not even sure I can put into words how great this book is and what it has done to my overall mindset. Just amazing.
Reading through a lot of the comments I thought maybe some of you would be interested in these
