One of the saddest moments

I first discovered modern yo-yoing when I bought a Duncan Bumblebee at a mall and I went home and looked up yo-yoing on YouTube. It blew my mind. I had no idea. I eventually came across a video of Jensen Kimmitt. I just thought his style of throwing, and yo-yoing in general was so cool. I fell in love with yo-yoing. Do you guys remember what it was like when you did? How excited you were, and how happy it made you? I saved up my money and bought my first metal unresponsive yo-yo. It was a CLYW Wooly Marmot. I could have bought something cheaper or easier to use. Instead, I bought an expensive, undersized, organic yo-yo. However, it was perfect because it made me happy. It inspired me to want to yo-yo more, and learn more. I tried to protect it, but eventually it got dinged, and scratched, and scuffed, and again, and again. I guess I didnā€™t try too hard, but I wanted to really play with it too, and play with it anywhere. Over time I was amazed that it could be so beat and still play fine.

I used to get on here years ago and try to tell people things like ā€œflat bearings are betterā€, and other views I had, etc. Sometimes it would turn argumentative. It came from a good place. I wanted to help people, to improve their skills or how they view yoyoing, etc.

We all have our own opinions on what yo-yoing is, and thatā€™s ok. Remember to not take it too seriously(including me). Arenā€™t we all here to have fun and enjoy yo-yoing after all? And, in our own way. Love you guys.

Jensen was one of my first inspirations when I started in 2019, along with Charles, Markmont, and others from that era. Itā€™s crazy how so many years later their styles have such an impact on newcomers to the hobby. It definitely got me excited about learning unresponsive and wanting to learn how to develop my own style/flow.

Also, flat bearing are better :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Very quickly read the comments so Iā€™m not sure if this has been said or not, but I saw this guy in a tutorial using a yoga mat when on hard floors. Iā€™ve been doing that now and now I can yoyo all over my house instead of the yoyo safe rooms. I would definitely say it would be worth the price to pick something like that up. The mat I use is technically a weight lifting mat so itā€™s a little thicker and softer than a traditional yoga mat. Also feels good to stand on if Iā€™m standing and playing yoyo all day. Easy to roll up also when youā€™re done.
