One Drop YoYos Official News

I think that density shows in the way it feels in play even though it’s lighter. I’m prolly in the minority, but I prefer the OG Summit over the 7. Looking forward to trying the Free Solo though!

7075 is only 4% denser than 6061, which comes out to be 2.6g more for a 65g yoyo. I guess this is more than overcome by the thinner walls and different design in general allowed by the stronger 7075.

If it’s only 4% greater density is it only 4% ‘stronger’, or does it have other properties that make the density to added strength ratio < 1:1?

Maybe this can help:

The specific strength (strength per weight) is higher for 7075 and 7068 compared to 6061. One Drop’s own “min thickness” guide says that they can machine 7075 to be 2/3rds the thickness of 6061, which means the main body can be about 70% of the weight (accounting for the density differences) of a similarly designed 6061 body.

Correct. When we do this, we call it “Boosted”. Just a marketing term but that’s easier than trying to explain that 7075 is heavier but we redesigned things so the final weight would be less. Seven Summits, Legendary Terrarian are two examples of “Boosted”.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone other than JT used a Top Deck in competition?

I don’t know. I think so, but haven’t really tracked that.

I only ask because the Top Deck is so incredibly performant that I’m shocked more competitors haven’t use it over the years.

But from what I understand, a lot of that comes down to the fact that most competitors at the high(er) levels are all sponsored and would not be using One Drops unless sponsored by One Drop, which would naturally limit the use of Top Decks in competition.

That makes sense. And not everyone on our team competes.

The Free Solo is listed as a November 2020 release on the OD website. Today is the last day for that to remain true. Will it go up for sale today or will it get re-tagged as a December 2020 release?

Looks like they just updated it to December 2020. :eyes::eyes::eyes:

Hoping these drop soon, and not while I’m at work.

I am super stoked on this. I have a 6061 Summit in a solid color and have always wanted a splash… this will be a killer upgrade.

Went live 2 mins early. Got myself a Saturday Market! woohoo

I’ve noticed that OD recent releases were all tapped axels, and it’s kinda hard to find side effects… is it just an impression or is the Side Effects generation is fading?
