This was suggested a few years ago, when 8 new models in a row from 2018-mid 2019 were tapped axles. Then Legendary Terrarian, 1 to 1, and Fat Tire were released in the last half of 2019.
Axle system based on design requirements of each new throw. Taking weight out of the center, or keeping final cost lower (Intro/Nitro), being a few.
Side Effects themselves are similar to throws, in that that they’re made in runs, not all shapes / materials / colorways will be available at the same time.
Hmmmm, thanks for the explanation, I hope you are correct, I indeed like the SE idea, unfortunately it’s not easy to find those, plus the tapped axles yoyos in a row (withouth this history background) made me wonder about a new strategy of the company.
If I’ve counted correctly, since Feb 2018 there have been 6 SE-based releases and 16 tapped axle releases. This would suggest a fairly strong preference over at OD for tapped axle designs, which I suspect are less expensive to make. I don’t think this represents a new strategic direction for the company since tapped axle designs have always dominated their catalog.
That makes sense… Maybe I had my judgment clouded due my preference to see SE yoyos from OD, since they are the dominant manufacturer, and tapped axles I can find anywhere.
I know your favorite yoyo is the VTWO, and actually I got my first OD after reading a lot of your comments about the company and their products. I’m not saying they are bad products, I had purchased a tapped axle from OD last year as well.
I don’t know, I just fell the SE so appealing and I dont know other company who makes it.
I like SEs too, but the limited color options kinda drive me nuts. I like ultralites the most, and I like to match the color of the SE to the color of the yoyo. Problem is, they don’t make ultralites in all the colors I need. For instance, gold ultralites are extremely rare (brass ultralites are too heavy and contradict the whole point of ultralites, IMO), there are no teal ultralites, and there haven’t been gray ultralites in years.
