Is it actually duplication, though? Did anyone propose “no bearing included, lower price for all” as an option earlier in the discussion? Because I can’t find any reference to it?
If the throw has a flat and a step out it’s pretty cool!!!
I would love to get two bearing love when plastics or even metals come with c and a bearing think it’s awesome so flat and center track would be cool…look at how cool my design spins it’s dope with either bearing in it
You really think @French was proposing that? Your sarcasm meter may need adjusting.
I think it makes sense; if the logic is really “we expect all players to put in the bearing they prefer”, then it should ship without a bearing, because one drop can’t possibly be held responsible for predicting what each player wants, can they?
Plus, lower cost and more competitively priced yo-yos… win-win for everyone!
But they don’t say that at all. They say polls and customer feedback has shown that ~60% of their customers play the flat. Shipping the yoyo without a bearing is really just an inane thought. I don’t think you’ll find a single person (maybe other than yourself or someone that just wants to argue the point) that actually thinks that’s a good idea.
Except that I’m not sure the marketplace would accept a yoyo that isn’t usable right out of the box.
Per the above quotes, I don’t think it is! Shipping with no bearing offers the ultimate in customer choice and freedom plus lower prices for everyone.
It also would have saved me probably $45 ($1 per yo-yo?) and the time of giving away all those flats, plus the time it takes to swap out.
You musta missed this…
That being said… again… let’s just let this thread die… okie?
I see what you’re saying, but who wants to receive a yoyo without a bearing? Don’t you think out of the box functionality is important for a yoyo?
Don’t you think $1-$2 extra in every customer’s pocket is important for a yo-yo? Because the customer is gonna put in whatever bearing they prefer anyway, right?
And yeah, I’d prefer no bearing personally, if my only choice out of the box is a flat. I’ve changed every single OD I’ve ever owned*, then I had to turn around and give away or sell the flats. It’s like my time is worthless, Glen! WORTHLESS!
I’m telling you, no bearing is the ultimate in customer choice, and a savings for all buyers!
* except for the four 2016 benchmark shapes, it felt weird to change a “benchmark” bearing.
I just don’t understand why folks wanna kill the thread… If you don’t like it, well… Dont click on it! Also, I seriously doubt any random Joe looking for a throw-yo for his boy is gonna stumble upon One Drop, put half a benji into it, and call home office complaining the thing ain’t got all it’s parts. On the other hand, I’m sure some value how the throw is tuned prior to shipping, and that needs a bearing in place. I’m firm in my position that OD is taking a solid, successful approach with their classic ‘Merican bearing, and on my view about the only thing I’d consider an improvement is if they trademarked and manufactured their own signature centering/ concave 10-ball. Because flat bearings can and have been surpassed in design. #throw-yo
We must keep this thread running as we refuse to give up until we hear what we want to hear. That’s the way we roll. Learned that as kids, just ask the same thing, act the same way over and over and we always get what we want.
On second thought………….
It could be argued that the kind of player who buys a One Drop is advanced/serious enough about yoyoing to know what kind of bearings they like best, knows where to get them, and knows that installing them is trivial. It would be interesting to survey the One Drop customer base to see how many of them would still buy One Drop yoyos if they didn’t ship with a bearing at all. If @da5id is correct, then we can safely assume that at least 60% of OD customers would object since they like the flat bearing that currently ships with their yoyos (and doubtlessly would prefer not to have to buy them separately). If that’s the case, then the majority wins here and One Drop should just continue shipping with their flat bearing.
Every time I’m part way through typing a response to posts in this thread i just give up because it’s not worth the energy. Nobody is going to convince anyone to change their mind and there’s nothing to add.
I couldn’t agree more. I don’t have a problem with this thread per se, but I feel like all this energy could be directed somewhere else. Instead of focusing on bearings, why not share some opinions on what One Drop should do next? I think @da5id proved, beyond any doubt, that he’s willing to listen.
Personally, I’d like to see them make a titanium version of the VTWO with side effects. It could be called the TiToo, or the TiTWO.
And OneDrop know their business better than the half dozen or so commentators in this thread.
They already started making more cool non formula splash colorways, and two side effect releases (finally!) so I am a satisfied customer!
… with some flat bearings I need to get rid of!
