OMG you did and you would too… too funny! Ill insert foot in mouth now lol. Well, it wasn’t too bad, and since were all being ok and in touch with our male feministic side…Maybe ill just submit mine with a little old school Britney Spears, or maybe even some TLC waterfall action!!!
Just got an update from one of the sponsors… not long before I can let y’all in on it!
Update to the rules: to give as much back to the sponsors as possible, there will be a graphic required at the beginning (3 seconds) of each video. Once we reach our final agreement with all the sponsors, I will create the graphic and provide a link to it at the beginning of the video. If the thought of any video editing at all terrifies you and this new requirement is causing any hesitation… FEAR NOT! I am handy with video editing and can either help you along or can do the whole thing for you. You just worry about recording dem tricks.
And now a word from one of our sponsors.
When Joey Serrano (yomagic) of 2sickyoyos (links withheld per forum rules) heard about our contest, he was the first person on board with the offer of a prize. Already a big fan of the Gambit yoyo, I was extremely excited that he has offered one as a prize!
I had the opportunity to play 2sickyoyos’ forthcoming release, The King, while at NER. The new yoyo is notably different from the first, with even nuttier rim weighting and incredible stability. It’s a lightweight yoyo that still plays with determination on the string-- you can push it to high speed without tilting out as easily from sloppy play (and my fast play is indeed sloppy!). Keep your eye out for this next release.
I wanted to do something special with the contest this year, and 2sickyoyos’ sponsorship has helped in that regard. In addition to the “small token” that all entrants will be getting, every entrant across both divisions will be automatically entered in a raffle for the Gambit.
That means that no matter what your self-assessment of your skill level is (ie. you have convinced yourself that you aren’t in the running for the win), you have a chance to win a premium yoyo from 2sickyoyos! As long as you make a trick video and enter it into this contest, you’ve got a shot at this one!
Thanks, Joey and 2sickyoyos!
Alright, guys, very excited to announce this one as locked in!

One Drop YoYos has generously offered a Valor ( One Drop Yo-Yos – YoYoExpert ) to the winner of each division!
The Valor is an incredible yoyo. I don’t want to sound like I’m full of hot air or anything, but since I came into one of these at NER a few weeks ago, it has dominated my evening play. Put the kids to bed, circulate through a few other favourites, and land on the Valor. I know it has other “better” selling points that you’re probably already aware of (7075, stable, elegant yet aggressive styling), but something that really stands out for me is how perfectly the gap and response are dialled in for me. Every bind is clean and tight but with no fear of snags. I dunno what magic they did, but every trick bind is a joy.
There will be one gunmetal and one gold Valor provided by One Drop! Winners will be free to sort out their colour preferences, or that failing I’ll simply randomly assign them.
I’ve had a few people inform me that they’re in the editing stage of their videos now… if you want a shot at the Valor, there’s still just under 2 weeks to get’r done. Any questions about submissions, just fire me a PM here on the forum, or if we’re Facebook friends, look me up over there.
Thanks, One Drop!
Wow that’s awesome of the sponsors, I wish I could enter but I’m 18 and live with my parents haha. Best of luck to all the ol’ fellas in it for this one!
It’s sure shaping up, Nikolai! Last year’s seemed to be fun for the younger crowd as “spectators”, too.
Speaking of shaping up, another sponsor announcement!
Yomega has graciously offered up a Star Wars Glide (Darth Vader edition) as a prize to one lucky entrant. If you haven’t played a Glide yet, it has quickly become a popular choice for competitors and for good reason! Add the amazing graphics and smooth finish of the Star Wars editions and you have a premium yoyo that frankly I wish I could win. Haha!
Allocation of the prize is yet to be determined; I am trying my best to make sure both divisions are treated “equally”, but my initial reaction is that when it comes to retail cost of some of the prizes, the higher one should end up going to whichever division ended up having more competition. Beating 12 competitors in “one year” is theoretically (but not necessarily!) a tougher gig than beating 6 competitors in “over a year” for example.
What say ye oldsters? Opinion on the matter?
Thanks for the amazing prize, Yomega! One way or another it will end up in some deserving hands!
Is it too late to enter? I want to BATTLE!
Blimey, there are some big names dropping in to sponsor this!
Can’t wait to see all the entries, it was a fantastic contest to observe last time and I’m sure this time will be no different.
Definitely some awesome prizes coming out of this one! Good luck to all those who are entering, I’m excited to see all the entries!
Paul, Dangit, you can more than sort of throw!
Paul Dang you are going down! If Dang is in I’m down I will own him!!!
Deadline is June 30th.
I have it on good authority that one Glenn Godsey has intentions of entering as well! You think you got what it takes to bring Glenn down? Not to mention me and my Superman variation? That’s a tall order.
I feel like some people that are my age will enter (Im 24) but I personally dont feel like an “oldster” so I will stick to watching the entrys!
Im really excited to see Steve Brown’s, that should be pretty sick!
You’re probably right-- some mid-20’s people will definitely enter; it’s all a matter of your self-evaluation.
Not sure if Steve Brown is actually going to do it. What’s the meme? “Not sure if serious” with Frye looking all pensive. That’s where I’m at. It’d be great if he did enter, though!
Wow this keeps getting better and better! I really want to see this battle!
DANGGGGGG … Yea were done…
Do you think that someone in the 20’s should actually be able to qualify as an “old guy”?
I feel it would be rather cheeky for someone in their early-mid twenties to enter. I’m 24, and quite frankly I feel like an old man, but I’d never feel right entering in against people in their 40’s and upwards. The thrill of this contest is watching middle aged and older men throwing yoyos about, it isn’t as entertaining to watch a 25-26 year old throwing as it is a 60 year old.
As people may recall from last year’s discussion thread, the entire contest is meant to be pretty low-stress and fun. It wouldn’t be fun for me to police people on whether they feel like part of the “older crowd” or not. If somebody self-qualifies as “older” and are honest with themselves about it, I’m not checking I.D. or taking votes or anything.
If it becomes a problem this year or there are any sour grapes (I hope not! Let’s keep this fun, guys!), I may have to impose an age cutoff next year. Last year I didn’t need one and it worked out great, so there was no need to modify it this time around-- there were a few guys in their twenties who fit right in. I wouldn’t want to create a feeling of exclusion… if we “old farts” (keeping in mind that I mean this term a bit tongue-in-cheek) are truly a person’s peer group, I’m not going to be the one to send that person away.
Latest sponsor announcement, and I believe the final one I was hoping to finalize before making the “intro graphic”…
None other than our very own YoyoExpert.com has offered a suite of gift certificates that will help facilitate an Old Folks Battle tiered placement system. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-place gift certificates with the following values will be awarded for EACH division!
$75 for 1st
$30 for 2nd
$15 for 3rd

I think it goes without saying that YYE is one of the pillars of the yoyo community. More than just a store (though it’s a great store!) they are gold-level sponsors for so many events throughout the year, have ongoing giveaways like the “Stick it. Click it. Win it.” contest, serve as an easy way to get at André’s amazing tutorials in the “learn” section, and of course provide this forum that for many of us constitutes the foundation of the “online” yoyo community.
Thanks so much André and YoyoExpert.com… you’re awesome!
