Official Pay It Forward Thread For Yoyo Expert Members?

how successful are pay it forwards to helping people who struggle to afford yoyoing?
Like lets say you give a kid a yoyo, you expect them to give also when they couldn’t afford in the first place.

i guess i misunderstood everything. Im talking about something that has nothing to do with this.

It doesn’t have to be yoyos, it can be anything. Its about doing something nice for someone you don’t know. Which makes them feel in a better mood and pass the positivity on when a situation arises. Whi h could even be days weeks or months later

yeah im talking about something completely diffrent.

I can assure you no one running a yoyo company is getting rich off of it, it’s a side job/hobby for most. And they’re all run by good people who loved yoyo just like you and wanted to give back. Companies keep the community running, without them there are no sponsored players, no contests, no products, and there wouldn’t be this beautiful friendly forum for you to discuss your ideas.

You kinda have a sad and pessimistic view on things.
I joined this community when I was 14, now I’m 25 and I spend more than I should on yoyo’s because I appreciate the creator of them. For me atleast it’s about support of an artform.
If you think it’s about flexing and consumerism I think you missed the point. If it was about consumerism and flexing you wouldn’t see prices almost at manufacturing cost. Ever tried designing and producing a metal a1 throw?
These people need to support their hobby and make money to do so.
How fun is it for those who get support? You have people who believe and confirm what you do. What more can you ask? I hope you have people in your life that support you and might change your view on things

Some people might try and flex, scam and be unkind in general… But just like you, they missed the point…

The person who needs help is not expected to do anything in return. @Theycallmecotton is just trying to help people who need help with no strings attached.

The point is to motivate others who are well off to help others who may not be so well off. Wether it’s money, yo-yo, or string. Cotton and Dizzy motivated me to give away a yo-yo.

@Theycallmecotton and @JEA86 are two of the first people I talked to when joining the forum. Both are amazing. Cotton recently sent me a bunch of free string. He has not asked for anything in return. Jeremy sent me a Peak 2 and let me pay him a few days later. He trusted me to pay him even though I was new to the forum and we had just started talking.

Everything you do in life someone is going to try to flex. Someone is going to try to be unfair or even try to scam you. That doesn’t define everyone else who is kind and caring of others.

As a tangent to this, just since it was a topic brought up. I feel like a ton of people on this forum have given away at least a few yoyos. Lots of people including myself just have zero reason or desire to bring it up, maybe because of the perception of it being seen as a “flex” of you bragging that you helped others. Nobody is trying to seem cool or wealthy by giving away a 10-20 dollar yoyo to a kid who sees you throwing, it’s just something you do because you think it might give them a fun hobby and creative outlet. There’s more generosity in the scene than you’d expect, lots of people pay it forward like this but never post about it.

You dont have to spend money to pay it forward… You just have to do something nice for someone… It could literally be anything that promotes love and positivity and makes someones day just little bit better

Thank you for everything you do in this community, @Theycallmecotton

To put us all back on track, I gave one of my unprld yo-yos to a coworker who seemed interested in throwing. I’m going to be teaching him binds and some beginner tricks during lunch breaks!

There was also a friend I made from the YYE community that wanted to know how the Mowl Surveillance feels like, I am shipping that out to him tomorrow so he can use it and see if he likes it himself! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I just sent my mother’s friend’s son a yoyo. He is six years old and I’m going to be doing some zooms with him to teach him some tricks!

I tried to get two friends into yoyoing and they both stopped after landing a trapeze. I’m sad about this but at least I tried.

@YoYoExpertGarrett hit the nail on the head, some of the best people i have meet in this hobby have been the owners of companies, like Ernie from general yo just to name one, most company owners are hobbyists themselves and give back, keeping the community alive so we all have people like us to communicate and create with instead of throwing alone! we take care of each other as a community has always been my experience… this is sick thread @Theycallmecotton, hopefully it can stay positive and help some people out! The community together is just as important as the throws and throwers themselves

I have about 17 kids who I am teaching right now, and they are currently on Jamaican flag on the trick list. This is what I am worried will happen to them.

I tried to “pay it forward” and send a yoyo to someone, shipping would love been 115$ CAD and that’s just out of my means :pensive:

That being said I’m trying to collect all throws by Recess and if anyone wanted to “Pay em forward” lol I’ll gladly do something for someone else (within my means😁 kinda meaning that have to be within 50$CAD shipping range)

I’ve also been thinking about offering free lessons to kids in my city (Sudbury ,Ontario -Canada)because if you look up Sudbury it’s clear to see there isn’t much to offer Youths
My city has been hit hard by the opiate epidemic and from personal experience having nothing to do added to the ease of “Falling into” that “life” , so IF I could help at least 1 young person stay away from THAT “life” it’ll be 100% worth it

I just don’t know where to start, if anyone has any experience with that…

You can do anything…Here is an example… Pick one person on the forum…Message them telling them you would like to buy them dinner… and simply send the 15 dollars

I completely agree with you.

Everything in Cars revolves around the Big ginormous Car Makers and spending money and not on the Community.

Every day while I’m driving my new truck to work, I see any number of people riding skateboards slowly on their way to work. All this is happening while all the executives that work for the major car manufacturers around their yachts drinking martinis and having a good ole time and doing nothing for the community.

We certainly can’t expect them to help. So I think the entire community nationwide should all get together fork up some money And start buying poor people new cars. Because they can’t afford them. Because they have no money. And if one person has a new car and enjoy driving it then everybody should have a new car regardless of how much money they don’t have. It’s only fair because I want us to be a big happy community. Life is an about the big companies sucking all the lifeblood money out of us stealing our souls and just letting the children suffer eating crackers with no peanut butter.

We need to do something. Call some friends get together and raise some money. And send all the money to me. I promise. I gave my word of honor. As a senior citizen that volunteers for jury duty and always tells the truth. I swear that once I buy myself a new Ferrari it will allow me to drive from door to door handing out pamphlets telling people we need to get together and help everybody and anybody that doesn’t have the same thing as anybody and everybody else everything that we all have already. Because I can’t have any fun. We can’t have any fun. All the people that have something of some kind of value whether it’s a JetSki or a bowling ball or a skeet shooting rifle or a pogo stick. We’re all having fun right. And ‘those’ other people are just suffering and sucking eggs. We need to help everybody until everybody has the same exact amount of stuff. If we can all help each other as a community Without any input or assistance from these large major companies like YoYoExpert for example the multi millionaires, then all these big evil greedy companies will all go out of business because we don’t need them anymore because they don’t like little people anyway do they? Power to the people steaks for the poor folks and a new Porsche in every driveway.

Cast your ballot September 21 remember me and vote for me and I’ll send you a yo-yo no string just a yo-yo. The community will provide everyone with strings because that’s the way a good community is leave no yoyo player behind. I got to go now I’m hungry. I’m gonna go down the street buy everybody in my neighborhood a chili dog because when I eat They have to eat too. I think I’ll get everybody a medium drink. Because that’s the way we roll.
