Negative feedback for @ubniversal and "Conner"

Hi all! I had bad experience with @ubniversal (themown) and the guy called Conner H ( hconnerstone@yahoo.com), wanted to share feedback about it.

I was looking for an old CLYW BvM Frank Slide which I had back in teen age. @ubniversal suggested me to write to Conner. I sent $40 as prepayment to Conner for him to send me the yoyo 13 days ago. 9 days ago Conner said that he’ll send me a tracking number for the shipment. I haven’t heard from him ever since, after 4 emails. Neither have I heard from @ubniversal, after sending 2 PMs.

Avoid these guys. Scammers should go to hell.

So…… what exactly was the ‘deal’?

So if you sent a prepayment, that means you sent a partial payment of the total amount you wanted for the yo-yo, correct?

Was it that you already didn’t trust a guy? Or he didn’t trust you?

Because I mean, if you trusted each other, you pay him and he says the yo-yo.

What method of payment did you use to send the $40?

I did not want to send the full amount, so I suggested part before and part after shipment.

There didn’t seem to be any lack of trust. I blindly didn’t check either @ubniversal or Conner who they are. @ubniversal superficially seemed like not a throw-away account (wrong), so I just thought that it’s a member of the community could be trusted - also wrong, apparently.

I sent money through Zelle. And yes, the agreement was that I would send him 40, he would send the yoyo via USPS and send me a tracking number, and upon reception of that I’d send him the rest of the money. What’s your question here?

Oh man. There are 3 VERY good lessons here, not just for OP but for any newer members reading this… definitely always be skeptical of doing deals with newer accounts - @ubniversal joined juuust last month. And 2, ALWAYS check for feedback, there’s a whole sub forum dedicated to it. And if they don’t have it here, see if they’ve done a deal elsewhere (like on the FB BST for example). Also 3, NEVER send money through Venmo or Zelle unless you’ve literally met/are friends with the person IRL… PayPal has protections for these exact scenarios (when paying via the Goods & Services option) and had you used that, you might have had a chance at getting your money back. Rookie mistake, and at least it’s $40 and not $400. I’m sorry you’ve had a bad experience here though. I’ve been on these forums for 15 years and have never once had a bad transaction, it’s just a matter of going about deals the right way.

thanks man, I appreciate it! I didn’t think about PayPal, only had Venmo and Zelle in mind… very useful info, same as the one about feedback!

That guy hit me up in DMs with the same story.

I was looking for an El Mijo and he told me to email Conner.
I didn’t though because that’s sketchy and I’ve been buying and selling things in the internet for many many years now.

Sorry you’re out $40 at least it wasn’t more.

Hey there. I had made a BST post a little while back looking for a throw when this same person had reached out to me. As someone who returned to the hobby at the beginning of this year for the first time since childhood, I was very skeptical of buying used or trading online. I strictly purchased brand new as it circumvented any possibility of being scammed.

One thing I’ve learned is that this community can be amazing. As a serial hobbyist, I’ve always delved into the platform in which the community exists (whether it be reddit, discord, a particular website’s forum, etc) in order to engage with other passionate individuals and get advice on certain things. You slowly learn to become familiar with active members.

When I finally summoned up the courage to give the BST a try I made sure to only work with members who either had great feedback or were very active. In the case of @ubniversal, he had messaged me with a 5 day old account and was referring me to someone who did not even have an account on this forum. There was no way to perform any due diligence on the trustworthiness of these individuals. Aside from that, it took him almost 2 weeks to return a PM. I’m naturally impatient (when it comes to buying something I want) and I ended up just moving on. Here is a screenshot of my conversation.

I agree with everything @SR1 mentioned in regards to the lessons to learn from this. I’ve only had a few transactions so far, but I’ve felt I’ve approached it in the right way and have not had a single issue.

This reminds me that I should establish a feedback thread for myself as I’ve only been a buyer thus far and would like to get into trading at some point.

Good luck out there!

I also got a DM from this guy and thought it was sus because I was looking for something pretty specific:

Seems like he’s messaging people with a LF/ISO post and using a different contact email for each.

It’s funny how he asks as if you’re supposed to know who the random email person is.

I also had a message from them. Thought it was a likely scam. Sorry you’re out a bit of cash. Luckily it isn’t the full amount.

Sam seems like the type to load up and fly across the pond over a yoyo scam. Lol

Very good point, I just blindly assume they are legit. I’ve only had 2 transactions on here but so far so good but this thread is a good reminder to always check, especially when dealing with a decent sum of money.

I didn’t even reply cause I wasn’t gonna email someone for a throw  get on the forum or FB and post it yourself you scrub

The format of all these messages seems, to me, like they’re AI-generated.

Scammers using AI to steal money from yoyoers; how cool is the future? :robot:
