Need assistance on what mods

I’m semi new to yoyoing. I started 7 years ago when I got inspired from I believe his name is Andre bouley sorry if I’m wrong. I bought his yoyo Dark Magic. Great yoyo!! Responsive, unresponsive . Chip my front tooth lol. Now after not doing yoyo’s my son has picked it up he’s ten, and I wanted to enjoy it with him. I bought two yoyo’s.

He chose this one - it’s unresponsive I taught him to bind.

MAGIC YOYO M001-B Black
Professional Yo-Yo Ball
For Age 8 up
Style String Trick (1A, 3A, 5A)
Size C (Large)

I picks this one below
Description
The YoYoFactory DV888 is the result of a long time goal: to make the world’s best performing modern yo-yo at a price that almost anyone can afford. In order to accomplish this goal, YoYoFactory transferred all of the patented technology from our Premium Line yo-yos into a very simple and comfortable design. The DV888 is composed of high grade 6061 aluminum for durable performance, a smooth anodized grinding surface, a large Central Bearing Co. SPEC Bearing, and the same silicone pad response system as our Premium Line yo-yos. Whether it is your first metal yo-yo or your go-to yo-yo for your next major performance, the DV888 will not disappoint!

But I like the width of his. But the responsiveness of mine. . The dv888 feels too small in my hand and in the center of the yoyo it’ looks too narrow and seems the string will slow it down.

How to do I make it his size or should I just buy a new one and do better research on it… So so sorry for the long post

I’d recommend a Shutter since you’ve played DM before. It’s one of the most popular choice and definitely one of the best value and great all around. Shutter is full size just like the Magicyoyo, while DV888 is undersized, and the way you describe it seems like you got the one with narrow C bearing installed?
Yoyoing is about preference nowadays, with companies having very high standards, you can get practically any metal yoyo from this site and it’ll be good as long as it suits your preference. If you want full size, stick with about 54-56mm diameter.

Did you buy the responsive version? The unresponsive version bearing size is  .250 x .500 x .187 (inches IDxODxW)  If you got the responsive version with a narrower bearing all you need to do it buy the stock bearing.

The stock larger bearing is The Large Spec Bearing, a Size C (.250 x .500 x .187) and fits the majority of all YoYoFactory brand yo-yos. $8.00.

Thank you both for a guideline in sizes I need to research of.
My kid kinda of got me leaning toward unresponsive, I can’t have him teaching me in the future. Lol
Jhb8426 I felt the same ways, if I got a wider bearing which would make it wider and make it feel bigger in my hand, cause the yoyo throws so smooth but being responsive man it comes up fast if I twitch lol

Rizki I agree with you cause automatically I’ll know it’ll feel right size cause it’s practically same as my sons right?

I wish I knew what you guys knew

Here’s my presence in a yoyo

Not full size as DArk magic
Decent width bearing that’s quiet
One you could change within a minute or two responsive to unresponsive and be just as good(is that what the starburst on one side and O ring on other (like Darkmagic)

Same material as DV888

One that Sleeps like a baby and quiet .

I’m so very undesisive. Could i receive a couple suggestions based on them points?

One more question what’s the threaded screw between both sides?

Sorry to add on with an extra reply. I also have to keep it in s decent price range. I know it makes its extremely difficult but my price range would be if I have to buy a new one 30$ … To add and re do my dv888 prolly 20$ lol

In that case, just get a regular C sized bearing like jhb mentioned and you’ll be good. Responsiveness is mostly on the bearing. A lubed bearing is responsive, a clean/dry bearing is unresponsive. Gap width can make a difference too but it has to start from the bearing first.
Narrow C bearing like the one in your DV888 right now is definitely lubed. You can technically clean it up and make it somewhat unresponsive but that will be snaggy, a regular C bearing will do the job better.
You can actually try using the bearing from the DM or the Magicyoyo in the DV, same size.

No need to chuck the yoyo, just get the new bearing.

That’s the axle. It’s what holds the whole thing together.

Sorry guys for the horrid job of spelling for me last post. Risky yoist, I meant to of mentioned that already. I’ve swapped his magic yoyo bearing out and I threw it a few times, Real soon after I threw it downwards again and the string broke and the yoyo sent spinning straight to the floor.
Maybe it had to do with me both taking his axel as well cause I barely had maybe two threads to twist both sides of yoyo together…oh and it was very smooth the first few throws could hardly feel the spin.

Ok definitely shooting for unresponsive majority of the time.

So I need a Large speck C Bearing. What’s the length majority people go with in Axels? Take the Orings out or leave in. I have thin lube for as I thought it was for longer sleeping spins? Which lube do I need thin or think? What’s the best brand bearings KonKave? I believed I Ownee a few of em. The bearings like dip in the middle guessing to keep string on… And axels along best strings. I have 50 coming on the mail lol.
Just tell me what you guys would buy if in my place (Parts wise or I guess I could go up to 40$ for another yoyo if need be. I want to be on the right track to become better.
Amazon or overstock has really good discounts on items. . Sorry for being such a noob

Use the original axle that came with the DV888. Best not to interchange them between yoyos.

I would just buy a regular C bearing, either flat or concave doesn’t matter though concave will help centering the string making it somewhat more stable. I’ve only had a few DV888 that is unresponsive out of the box, so I’m not sure what the axle inside the responsive one is, and if you had to change the axle or not.
As for lube, generally I play it dry without lube, except the few that are noisy even after cleaning. The lube is used to smooth the bearing a little making it more quiet, that’s it. Too much lube (or too thick) will create drag that can cause the yoyo to become responsive and spin less longer.
