Update: the strings have not changed colour at all

The string you originally said turned purple was also pretty worn. It may have been a combination of being dirty from your hand oils and sun exposure. Also, glass absorbs UV light, so you will get higher UV outside in the sun than inside. Overall dyes can be altered by sunlight, even the white strings likely have been bleached. Plus artificial light can vary a lot in tone making colours and white tones vary.

So what you are saying is… for the sake of experiment next step is rub the strings all over your face and hair to capture as many oils as possible.

Make sure to wash old string too make sure it’s not just dirty

Guessing that the color in the string came from the yoyo and that’s also why the finger loop isn’t purple. I’ve had string discolor a yoyo and vice versa. NBD imho. :slight_smile:

Definitely had that with stained/painted yo-yos. Never with an ano though

There are a few threads here where people mention ano coming off on grinds. Some suggested that it was more often with 7 series AL, but I think there are examples of both. I’ve got one or two that I noticed some color rubbing off anodized AL. It’s not common, but it happens.
