Ask a parent to help. They might even be able to undo the knot. I sometimes have to ask for help untangling knots and I’m ooooold.

Yeah it should. The tip may also work well for you to pick the knot before you have to cut the string, but you should pick up some extra string to have in hand.
OT normal works awesome on Butterflies and is nice and affordabke

the new ones have a silver graphic. i wanted one with black cuz it reminded me of a monarch and on Duncan’s site it still looks that way, but it comes printed silver like the other ones

That can happen. Duncan’s stock string… isn’t the greatest.
If you have a hobby lobby near you, they sell YoYo factory whips in the hobby section, I recommend one as a great affordable beginner throw you can pick up in person.
That said, I have a collection of butterflies, they are awesome and actually build some skills. They can be like yo-yoing on hard mode

This happened to my friends butterfly and when i cut the string with a knife, the center got sharp and started to cut his strings until he got a new one. So just so to very very carefully cut it if you have ti
Excellent tip on the steak knife and using it to pick a string before you cut it!
When you’re doing this though flip the knife so the sharp side is up using the backside against the post and trying to get the knife between the string and post. The leverage/tension of string will also help to cut it.
