Proud of you, man. There are a few ways to get into brain twister and most frontstyle combos revolve around some form of brain twister. Split bottom mount is a must to learn and fundamental. Nice work.
That split bottom mount is tough took me 2.5 straight hours of fails to kinda figure it out . I can barely that and brain twister so these two will keep me busy for a while ā¦
The tricky part of the mount I was having difficulty with is what the non string hand doesā¦
You have to swing the non string hand forward
That guy makes it look so easy but itās really not ā¦ Iām super beginner ; I refused to go to bed until I did it once

I had a question about putting oil on the bearing.
Is it better to take the bearing out and put a drop of oil on the inside of the bearing or is it better to leave the bearing in the yo-yo and try to drop it in the crack between the bearing and axle just a small drop does it right?
Practice practice practice
I am still working the Split bottom mount. Have been able to do Mach 5 a couple times.
You can leave the bearing in the yoyo. But the oil goes on the side. Not between the bearing and axel.
Oil should only be considered if you need more responce. Its easier to add a partial drop than it is to;
Remove the bearing and clean it or,
Playing through the oil till it breaks down.
Again you can always add a little more. Start with thin lube first, especially on the FH1.
Thick lube will really decrease the spin time.
Ok crap I got thick lube was that a mistake ? So the oil goes where the string wraps around the bearing then ? Or between bearing on the side while itās inā¦ thanks for clarifying ;
Someone told me to get thick lube for responsive ā¦. I can return it easily for thin.
Thick lube is fine for responsive just donāt over do it. I would recommend taking the bearing out so you donāt get lube on the response area. You want to avoid getting it on there bc the lube can mess with the adhesive keeping the friction stickers stuck there. Just a drop right on the bearing and youāre good. Here is a vid
Lube has to go INSIDE of the bearing. You do not want to get lube on any or in any part of a yoyo.
Itās nice to have thick and thin on hand to help dial response as needed. Especially as you start acquiring more yo-yos. I like to use silicone grease in my freehand for super snappy response. It does kill the spin a bit but itās not so unbelievably responsive, I can still do kwijibo and gt. The main thing is you want nice straight throws which comes with just doing it over and over and over.
Split bottom was very difficult for me to learn. After awhile youāll be doing it without much thought and be able to do it with your eyes closedā¦literally.
So does this sound right thick lube for my looping hornet, then thin for my free hand, one
Instead of returning the thick, Iāll just order the thin, and have both.
Iām OCD sorry for all the questions
Also whatās the difference then putting it on top versus inside doesnāt it just drip down to the inside when you put it on top?
For now, I would say yes, thick for looping, thin for freehand one. If you try the thin and donāt get enough response, you could always try going thick. Just make sure you do a tiny drop at first. There are some good tutorials on lubing and cleaning bearings.
The whole idea is you want to coat the little balls inside the bearing with a tiny bit of lube. For my freehand I usually just dip a toothpick in silicone grease and rub it on the crack between the inner ring and the shield.
Ok got it thank you very much ā¦ I will watch a ton of videos too also
appreciate you
In your other thread, I may have mentioned getting both Thick and Thin Lube prior to you getting the FH1, along with āWhyā.
The picture you provided is where the partial drop of lube goes.
Huh I realize I set my stuff up in a way I donāt see trick threads odd Iāll
Have to fix thatā¦
Sounds like your journey is coming along pretty well though. As for lube it all is preference I personally stuff my fh1 bearing full of silicone grease
I use lube on the tips of the strings for 2a yoyos so the response is more consistent, as well as under the spacers for metal spacer loopers. Also on the axles so thereās no galling.
Lube isnāt JUST a bearing thing for loopers, since it directly contributes to response.
Iāve never put lube on the string itās self. Makes sense probably comes from putting wax on strings for fixed axle play.
Iāll be in the same situation soon ā¦Iām 64 and havenāt yoyoed since i was 11-12 years old , i was a junior local champion when i was 10-12 years old ā¦so i still remember the first 20-25 tricks from those days on a wooden yoyo ā¦all i can tell you , itās practice , practice , eventually it all comes together ā¦once i master the responsive tricks all over again , i cant wait to learn un responsive ā¦a whole new world for me ā¦good luck ā¦it will happen for you
