What do you mean by hand manipulation? I have some experience with airbrushes and hand paints but watched a video of powder guns and they seem to spray in what I would call a circular pattern.
Very nice though for sure!

“Fine tuning” is probably a better term. If I was doing something large like a car rim or the like the fade is much easier to do with the powder gun. Due to the way the powder comes out of the gun it is extremely difficult to get the powder consistent on such a small piece. The “manipulation” is making sure the line where the colors meet stay true.
So it was all done with the gun alone? Looks very hard to get a finished product to look like yours above or many of the others with the powder guns I’ve seen on youtube. If that’s the case then I can only imagine how long it took to get that good. I’ve been an artist/into all kinds of media for 30+ years and can truly appreciate all the pics.
Edit
Are there different tips for the guns or are they all standard per gun?
Good work
Oh. My. Goodness.
That is earring material indeed…
I better get my ears repierced.
Thank you.
It was easier than I thought it would be and pleasantly surprised the way it came out the first time. I was ready to strip it back down if need be to be perfectly honest. Half way through the application of the powder it was looking a little sketchy but I just figured it would be best to follow through and learn what not to do if it didn’t work out.
Many different types of gun and set ups for powder coating.
So do some guns have different spray patterns? I’ve literally looked at every one of your pics and could only compare to my experience with airbrushes so when saw how powder was applied on few youtube clips I was amazed at how you did fades with such widespread spray patterns. If there are smaller pattern sprays/guns/tips I could understand (like you mentioning a wheel) but with something as small as our throws and large spray patterns I can only imagine how many different ways you have to apply the powder.
How do your wet applications adhere on top of your sprayed? Do they blend fairly well after finish coat or is the extra media noticeable in the “relaxed” hand?
I’ve done everything from water colors to resins(automotive applications/molds/carbon fiber) so was shocked when watched first youtube application of powder “after” looking at all your projects.
Hope you will continue to provide such services in the future as this type of workmanship is unattainable by more than the majority that would try to replicate it.
Agreed, your work is very impressive mullicabob.
Great job as usual. Your whites are just so clean.
Everything always looks good
Have you ever tried doing words and letters?
Most of the “patterns” are controlled by nozzles. They may deflect the powder in different ways. Of course the piece is charged so the powder really just sticks to it until its cured. If you have a piece that has a lot of nooks and crannies you may need to have a more “direct” flow of the powder in order to get it into those. Versus a larger flat piece that can more effectively be covered with a diffuser type nozzle, fan patternish.
As far as my wet work goes there is a couple of different ways to go about it. For the most part like the recent “Many Mountains” scheme I did when you coat the base color first and cure it your going to get a raised feel to anything you add on top. No way around it but little things can be done to help minimize the impact of that. Same goes with masking as 99% of the time there is going to be some type of difference where the mask meets. Now if you add a clear coat on top that goes bye bye.
Its a very forgiving media but can be a bit touchy when it comes to ornate patterns and the like. Thinking ahead a few colors and steps is key of course as you need to lay things out in order.
Yes and like everything else in this world you get better as you go!
What’s your favorite powder job you’ve ever done?
Although not around and actually was really on a test piece the blue and pink flat ano swirl I did on slowyojoe’s flying hut. Turned out like a cosmos type thing. Have been working hard to try and perfect the swirl.
Ok. So the clear does eliminate the raised powder. That’s what I was getting at.
Thanks!
Have you experimented with glow in the dark at all? Your work is really impressive
Yes he has. A few people own glowing powder. Its white i think…
