To be fair if we are saying most sold yoyo over time it’s probably the Duncan imperial but it’s got a fair lead in time under its belt crazy distribution and a super cheap price point
it can be a party favor in some circumstances.

I also imagine just in bulk orders Duncan has probably sold more marketing themed proyo and Boy Scouts themed hornets than any other brand has sold in individual yo-yos besides maybe yyf legends if we had the sheer numbers over time.

Those stats would mean nothing dirt cheap yo-yos sold in bulk aren’t exactly amazing yo-yos (everyone should still own a proyo)

Arguing what’s niche in a niche hobby is pretty silly honestly. I pull out my yoyo all over the place it’s rare to find another yoyoer in the wild.

I don’t think we’re going to see bimetal from onedrop but would love to see them do a code 2 remake in 7068

It’s wild how many topics devolve into discussion about One Drop not making competition yoyos.

Imagine going into a Mexican restaurant and being pissed that they don’t have sushi on the menu just because you love their fajitas and burritos. It doesn’t make any sense.

Part of me understands this as a big music fan. When a band I love announces a new album it is easy for me to start thinking about the record that I want them to make. I’ve learned that this inevitably leads to disappointment.

Let makers make the stuff they wanna make?

This

I am going to copy and paste this every time someone else tells me to kick rocks because I want OD to make a “competition” yoyo again. The way you worded this is exactly why I want a “competition” yoyo from OD.

I think the problem is that they’ve made great ones in the past like the summit, citizen, code 2, format c, valor, and top deck

Onedrop used to be in the trends. Like the project being undersized when undersize was the thing and then you had the code 1 and code 2 making what the community wanted.

These days it seems to be them doing their own thing.

I would love to see another community throw. Even if there were rules like no bimetal.

Everyone who likes bimetals

Edit: highest selling among people who know how to bind lol

I second a Data dump request. Out of curiosity. Maybe YoyoExpert can provide a synopses?

I would also imagine percpection influences opinion.

If I went to a Yoyo Competition, I would expect to see Competition Yoyos. Is this a fair data point?

If I went to a Yoyo Boomers Meet up, I would expect to see organics and responsives. Is this a fair data point?

We all have our prefrences. I imagine all our opinions are biased.

“Life is a Chameleon whos color is fit argument for fools.”

Even if YoyoExpert drops some data, that is still a dingle data point.

Not necessarily.

This implies everyone at a competition venue is a competitor equipped to compete. This is not what competitions are like. Maybe this is a hot take but most yoyo contests are more like yoyo conventions with the contest itself being like a “main event” (think how music festivals have “main event” concerts). Contestants (at least at the contest I was at) made up less than maybe 15% of the attendees.

Most time spent at a contest is time spent talking to people, hanging out, sharing collections, and just generally being a yoyoer around other yoyoers.

Dude, stop it. You’re making way too much sense for this thread.

Yes but cognitive bias your going to gravitate to peers that like similar things as you. You wouldn’t see me and my case of wood yo-yos and go bro that’s my guy let’s chill. Maybe I’m wrong in your case but that’s how people be mostly.

I vote we turn this thread into a get onedrop to do a code 3 thread

Sorry. Sorry. That line had me rolling, dude. :joy:
But yeah, I 100% agree with you on this one.

Really, really bad analogy as One Drop used to literally make banger competition models on the regular. You’d see them being used all the time in comps. I know a lot of people in this thread weren’t around back then but make no mistake
they used to be a brand that turned out comp yoyos all the time.

So the analogy should actually be more like
“Imagine going Mexican restaurant that had good burritos for a decade and now they refuse to make burritos” :skull::skull::skull:

Absolutely Sir.

Hot take, yes.

The point was to make reference to ones opinion.

These opinions are based on environment and experience in that environment.

We do not know what we do not know.

I am a Boomer, I enjoy responsives. My opinion is based on my joy. I would be ignorant to post on anything related to Competition or other styles.

Obviously there is a market for all these different styles and types of Yoyos we play with.

“Players” speak with their money to these businesses, who sell and stay in business.

The curiosity, pie graph would be cool, to see factual data.

Is what we think? Or will some of us be surprised?

Imagine it’s 1967 and you, a Beatles fan, love their early records like Please Please Me and With the Beatles. The band then churns out magical Mystery Tour, Sgt. Pepper’s and then the White Album - phenomenal albums but they are pretty distant musically from PPM and WtB.

The analogy holds water you’re just not willing to let go of the fact that they used to make something you and OD like and now they’re making stuff that OD likes that you don’t.

Or it’s like telling the owner of a family owned Chinese restaurant that has been in business for decades that Panda Express is much more popular these days so they should add “Honey Walnut Shrimp” to their menu or risk irrelevancy.

Beatles analogy is 100% dead on, well done. Also, Rain.
