Lyn Fury or YYF One? (Solved)

I still have fun throwing my Whips around. I am thinking about getting another travel around cheap throw. Now I am sort of split between the Fury and the One. I am leaning towards the Lyn Fury because it is heavier. Anyone that has both of them be willing to compare them?

This will be for 1A and I don’t mind throwing in some silli.

If you dont mind throwing in some silli, you should go with the lyn fury. because of the weight the spin time is increased dramatically. I use mine as my 5a beater

Lyn Fury is ordered. I can get a One later if I just want to try it. Here I was when I started thinking I would only get like 3 yoyo’s. This would make #18 in the house (I think). :stuck_out_tongue: Where does it stop lmao.

I enjoy both, but I agree you probably made the better choice with the lyn fury… I even like it with the O-rings to be honest…

I love my Lyn so much a bought a second one. I cleaned the bearings and siliconed them and they play great.

I have a ONE, I keep it responsive, mostly so I have a responsive wing shaped yoyo and it’s easier for me to show my kids tricks at their current playing level. They also have ONEs. Once they get into unresponsive play, they have yoyos for unresponsive play, but I don’t know if one kid is going to keep her preferred Legacy II responsive or snap the Speed bearing in it for unresponsive play. But tha’s neither here or there.

The thing I like about the ONE is that it can accept both narrow AND SPEC bearings, giving you plenty of play options. It’s inexpensive, which you’re looking for. It’s also pretty rugged, which is also a good trait for any yoyo. For the price, it can’t be beat. It is on the light side because it is an all plastic yoyo.

I have my eyes on getting a Lyn Fury. It’s heaver and I think a big bigger. It comes with black silicone o-rings installed for the response system. Those are supposed to be really durable and theoretically shouldn’t wear out. Well, that can’t possibly be true, but it will take a very long time to wear them out. I am planning to silicone it, which is a very common mod. I do plan on playing it with the o-rings in for a bit though. Due to the added weight and where the weight is, it should be more stable and spin longer than both the ONE and WHIP. It’s also fairly flexible in styles. While I don’t think it’s compatible with narrow spec bearing which means responsive play won’t be an ideal style of play, it should be pretty good for not only 1A, but 3A and has been used to win major competitions in 5A.

If we go into color and graphics, the Lyn Fury sticks out a bit more with the different colored halves. The ONE has bright solid colors, but the pog is kind of bland, but that’s OK. Flip the pog and make it your own! I have a blue ONE and will be getting a blue/black Lyn Fury.

Regarding maintenance:
Both yoyos are compatible with flowable silicone. I’m not sure if YYJ’s replacement silicone o-rings they use for most of their yoyos(like the DM2 for example) are compatible with the Lyn Fury. You can order replacement pads for the ONE if you so desire. There have been a few people who have had issues with taking their ONE apart, mostly in regards to putting it back together as sometimes the nut gets loose. This is a fairly easy fix that involves removing the clear cover for the pog and the pog itself.

Name and legacy:
The Lyn Fury is a JD signature model, being an all plastic version of the Hitman. I must say that in general, I’ve been pleased with yoyos in general that are signature models. My preferences so far are with different names.
The ONE has been redesigned recently, meaning the ONE I have will most likely NOT be the ONE you have. Better or worse? I would think for the better. It looks like the more pronounced rims are slightly textured so it would be more grind-friendly and shouldn’t pop so hard when it returns to your hand. I’m not sure if I’m going to buy a the ONE, but this is because while I do want to get some “cheap yoyos”, I’m just looking at different models by different brands right now. It might be something thrown into a future order.

My final thoughts:
I like both YYF and YYJ as companies. But if I compare head to head with my preferences, I’ve been choosing YYJ over YYF. It could be because I like the plastic/metal yoyos. I do have a lot of metal yoyos, but the only YYF metals I currently have is a dv888 and a mighty flea. The rest of their metal yoyos just aren’t really catching my eye that much right now. The ONE is a pretty much “no frills plastic yoyo”, but that’s what it was designed to be, and yet, it’s still a decent performer, especially for the costs. The ONE is great for beginners and for advanced players it’s a different feel and a good “bring to share” yoyo when throwing out in public, especially if you leave it responsive. I can’t help thinking the Lyn Fury is going to be much better in every way. Unless you have a need for responsive play, go with the Lyn Fury. Since you have no issue with throwing silicone into a compatible yoyo, if you don’t like the response in it, replace it.

In all that Chris… you left out 1 minor detail…lol. If you can find them, you can easily hubstack the Lyn Fury by popping in Synergy caps. The problem seems to be finding them these days though.

It wasn’t an option I was aware of. It’s also not an option I’m really interested in. But, it’s still valid information. You’re right, finding those synergy caps is not an easy task. But if one is willing to go through all that, why not just get a PGM instead? That’s about as inexpensive as one can get in a factory shipping hub-stacked yoyo. They are also a lot of fun. I can’t use the stacks on mine for the most part because of my skill level

Since I don’t have any Synergy caps, it’s not going to be an item that will stick out in my mind.

I prefer the lyn fury because it will last you a long time
You can play responsive when you first start out
You can play mod it and have it play unresponsive
It is one of my favorited 5a and yoyos and will last forever
I would pick on up if i were you

Got my Yellow and Black Lyn yesterday. Got to break in the silicone today. It has a nice weight to it. I was looking for that. Feels solid too. The bearing I tried the Electrical contact cleaner but it is still got some responsiveness left. Going to give it a dip in the Lighter Fluid and thin lube it for some break in time. Feels like this is going to be what I was looking for when it goes completely unresponsive.

Edit:

Ok. Found the problem. The bearing seat (or well wall?) was touching the outer part of the bearing (the part the string attaches to) when seated on one half. Took a pair of scissors and lightly carved around, checking until the bearing spun freely. Now it is playing very nice with plenty of spin power. Got some spacers on the way too.
