Gulp… I don’t like crowd funding… Gulp… I have no well thought out reasoning to give but there’s something about it I don’t like. Maybe if I think on it a while I’ll come up with a specific why and be able to figure out what puts me off about it.
And that is the crux of the matter with the Canadian PO. They do not enforce tracking practices. This makes anything from CPO ripe for fraud using PayPal.
“My package never showed up…”
Without tracking being ENFORCED, not an optional thing if the postman feels like doing it…; the delivery is useless for commerce. Trust me; I have been burned on eBay this way. Now, I will not trade with Canada.
Tracking is optional, just as in the States. I don’t know what options were presented for international buyers (if any) for shipping. If you got burned by an eBay transaction it’s because the seller didn’t offer or you did not choose the more expensive tracked option. And it’s usually substantially more expensive, which is my only real “trigger” that makes me angry with Canada Post. So. Danged. Expensive. For tracking.
If you buy the tracking, it’s enforced. If you don’t, there’s nothing to enforce. It’s that simple.
My kids, who are at home for Summer Vacation, spent all day June 30 not doing the few jobs they were asked to do by their mother and me. I told them if they could not get that done, I would shut-off the internet as punishment. They did nothing on the list, so I shut-down the router. Unfortunately, that meant I could not use the internet either.
Who knew that the next day would be the day that the Evora would release? Doh!
By the time the internet was back on - they were all gone. That’s what I get for being a good parent
Tracking is not “optional” when I pay for it in the USA. If you ship internationally, this becomes a bit of sticky issue. Tracking and other services are offered as a courtesy at the level of service that the shipper will choose to provide international shippers. For PO’s like USA and Japan, this is full-service.
Canadian post, however, will not guarantee tracking of international shipping unless you pay the ridiculously high fees that you note. These fees, are not just a point of contention, they are prohibitive for all but the most precious of cargos. The shipper did not offer it because it is simply not a realistic option.
That is why Canadian PO stinks for small-time international commerce.
It is indeed expensive. Prohibitive for small-ticket items. But anything above $50 and you get to decide if it’s worth the premium or not.
I don’t “blame” people for shipping domestically. Everyone gets to make their own choices! I just think that there’s a lot of misinformation and paranoia about it that doesn’t need to be there. These are national entities that are interested in delivering packages. They’re not loafing around dropping crap off a truck for the giggles of it all. Your package is extremely more likely to get there than not, even without tracking.
GregP - Although I think YoYoGeezer did an exceptional job answering you…You might could get an even more conclusive answer from your friendly neighborhood rocket surgeon.
Just messin with ya Greg…nothing but love here! :-*
They haven’t even shipped yet and people are already up in arms about the quality of Canada Post shipping and how long they think they will take to arrive.
Meh, I got plenty of stuff from Canada with no issues. Surprisingly I’ve had no issues with stuff from China but all shipping issues I’ve ever had were all from USPS (very small percentage of how many things I’ve received over the years). Sometimes, things just happen but no idea why people are all up in arms about something that isn’t directly a part of the original post.
Your point is exactly my point. I am not being critical of Canada. I was a teenager during the Iran Hostage thing. Your country is nothing but Gold in my mind
I was only saying that if you use PayPal; then Canada can be problematic.
Paypal REQUIRES tracking for their “Buyer Protection” to be in effect. This ensures that legit Paypal users will get paid. Without the Canadian PO cooperating, this mechanism is short-circuited. Paypal users like me can get scammed by someone saying they never received their package. Since I cannot provide the tracking of this package to a Canadian address without paying more money than the item is worth; PayPal will make me refund the purchase price; even though; as you have noted - the package probably got there in the first place. I am now out 2 times the price of the item. One for the item that the person is probably now enjoying. And one for the item that “never arrived” - because, without tracking, I cannot prove it.
Can you see why people might take a dim view of the Canadian Post Office?
Actually I think you got it kinda backwards. You didn’t miss out on the Evora because you were a good parent. If you were a good parent your kids would have done what they were told to do, lol
And if you were a little bit more on the ball, you would have taken away their cell phones. They would have done their chores. And you would be on Mail Watch for your new Canadian yoyo.
PS… Your Canadian Postal paranoia is kinda outside the realm of this Earth cycle. I get packages from various parts of Canada regularly. Never lost an item in the last 16 years. Two times items were hung up on Customs for a week or more. But everything has gotten to me so far.
