Life in plastic, is fantastic....?

Is it?

I do not know because at the moment I do not have any plastic yoyo and I would love one.

I seen at some point the W1ld plastic will come out and seems a no brainer if the price will be good.

I was eyeing the Atmos Arctica which looks absolutely sick but the dimensions seems quite big for my hands so I am still thinking about it.

Maybe the Unprld - Notion? I mean is a bimaterial but still plastic for most.

I would love to buy a plastic yoyo capable of everything from hardcore tech to horizontal and with a good spin time, a sort of “good for everything” but I do not know what the market has to offer in those terms.

I am open to every advice and help, I would love to enter in the plastic world.
I know that there is also the option of hybrids which are usually super cool but I would love maybe to keep it all plastic for now.

Thanks and kisses

Generally I think POM and machined polycarbonate yoyos are much nicer then the other types of plastics available e.g. molded ones. From touch and machining. One of my favs is the POM Mojo. But that is a matter of taste. A very good brand overal for platic which is not so often mentioned here is YoyoEmpire. They are cheap and there are many shapes and varations depending on you liking.

To be honest, I’m generally not really a fan of full plastic yoyos. I find that, even when they are quite performant for a plastic, they still are pretty noticeably less so than for a monometal design.

The big appeal imo is that they don’t feel so bad to ding. So if you like throwing outside over hard surfaces a lot/you want something that you’re comfortable doing walk the dog or letting kids try when you’re out in public while still having pretty good performance etc then they can be a great fit. For me, I yo-yo indoors/in the garden mostly so my plastics get very little time in the rotation which is why I avoid buying them now.

I say all that just because I know you like keeping a limited collection of yoyos that you use regularly. So if you’re not sure that description fits a niche in your collection then maybe see if you can try a few mono plastic or inner ring plastic designs out at a meet before committing to make sure.

Hybrids are much closer to bimetals in terms of performance, relative fragility and cost. The only modern hybrid I’ve tried is the Fulvia, which is very performant (particularly stable with an average pacing/speed), though it is also quite large in the hand, somewhat similar to the Ekta. I haven’t tried one but Monarchs get endless praise and I do really like the Connection which is a similar design so consider that too.

I will also say that, both full plastics and hybrids tend to be quite noisy for whatever reason. Also, in my experience the better ones do also tend to be a bit oversized compared to aluminium throws so keep that in mind when considering (particularly full plastics, maybe for hybrids this isn’t the case anymore).

The DIY is my preferred plastic right now, and it can certainly “do anything.” It replaced my Shooting Star which felt very similarly “do anything.” I can’t recommend either enough, and the Shooting Star is also super affordable.

I agree with Lex that fully plastic yoyos are just less performant than metal yoyos and I personally just don’t really like plastic unresponsives.

I loooove responsive plastic yoyos though! The material is just better suited for that kind of a vibe imo. Freehand 1 is my favorite responsive Yoyo.

If you want an unresponsive plastic, AoE is probably the best I tried but idk I would say just save your money.

This is exactly why I do not have any plastic yoyo at the moment, I had some in the past and also hybrids and ended up selling them because I needed money but also because at the end of the day I play only bimetals, also monometals are quite rare in my rotation at this point, I do like to play with the Shortcut.

I can ask YYFriends to send me an AOE that seems pretty nice but I thought the market had more stuff around that maybe I didn’t knew.

I also had the Plastic Fulvia and sold because I didn’t like the feeling much, the Connection seems super cool but is basically a trimaterial (if i remember well).

I am also eyeing a CLYW Otter from I don’t even know how many months, I just do like the shape and seems a great yoyo but again did not pull the trigger still thinking about the performances and thinking that basically at a similar price I can take a W1ld - Wilder.

I am up for a “new” feeling but without sacrifice much the performances I get with bimetal

Oh yeah the Connection is much closer to a bimetal than a hybrid (it is a trimaterial iteration of the Emotion as you said). The Monarch is the hybrid one from that line of yoyos.

I haven’t tried the Monarch, only the Connection, but if it plays similarly then it’ll be a very good yo-yo (I believe LX_Emergency had a comparison video of the line and he was a big Monarch fan).

I think you’ll probably have to look at hybrids to get this tbh rather than a full plastic design. If I see you at a meet I can bring my hybrid Fulvia for you to try as well fwiw.

Grab some from Luftverk. They are fantastic, yes, and definately worth the money.

The sf plstc is by far my favorite. They’re kinda hard to find these days but if you can find one I’d grab it.

@Albertino I know exactly what you mean. I keep buying plastic, and it just doesn’t work for me. Mostly they play great. They just don’t feel correct. For whatever reason. I think it’s just me.

I too like to have a few things that just feel different in play. The best, different yo-yo, I have played is the G2 SL1000. It feels so different to play, and is still exciting to play. It is a bimetal. So it feels familiar, and yet so different.

I have this plastic i don’t know the name of, but it’s made by SF and that thing RIPS. I’m also a huge fan of plastics and not so much a fan of bi metals so my opinion probably doesn’t hold much weight here.

Luftvurk POOO is also way better than it should be. Alot can be done on the AOE as well.

based on your general preferences it sounds like you might need to go hybrid (plastic body, metal rims), like a speedaholic fx or iceberg, or similar.

Thanks all for the advices, I think probably an hybrid is better for me at this point, I had a Plage from JT in the past and it was a sick yoyo playwise, stupid me to have sold it and do not keep it for the times I wanted to play something different

Nice Gung-Fu

I love POM/Delrin and machined PC as materials for the feel, but I have not found a plastic yo-yo with notable performance that is not also oversized. I think that is just the reality of the lower density materials. To bring them up to “normal” weight, either the diameter grows (POM Mojo, DIY, Artica) or more material is packed into the cup (TopYo Cloud, yoyofriends Dove). Between the two, oversized delivers the best performance, IMO.

Hybrids of course can use that low density to their advantage and arguably outperform monometals and bi-metals.

Doc Pop DIY and C3 Speedaholic XX are two of my favorite plastics. For delrin, RCS Punk is pretty great.

I second the stevia and are personally, stelvia is just plain fun and AOE plays really well from what little I actually have played it lol

Thanks :sunglasses: it’s THE one i held onto. 1 of 3 prototype, technically called the “fast-fu” .

Go for a Luftverk Fulvia or Stelvia. There’s also the Hybrid Fulvia but I would suggest trying the full plastic since you’re wanting to see what it’s like. The Fulvia is hefty in weight and spins dead smooth you can push it with the techy tricks too.

The YoYoFriends AoE is pretty nice. The C bearing Duncan Freehand 1 with added weight rings plays like a beast. The Speedaholic XX is a great player too! It’s got a fingerspin hub that’s metal but the rest of it is plastic.
