Learning on a higher end yoyo?

Hi, sorry that I can’t address every single post, as there’s quite a lot of them. Though I did read through them all. I appreciate everyone’s input, even though some of us have different opinions. Although ultimately I’ll have to learn through my own experience, I do believe that both higher end bearings and higher end yoyos do make a difference in the play experience. Just because it’s possible to master everything on a cheaper yoyo and cheaper bearing, doesn’t mean that this is the way it has to be done. In addition to having ordered a variety of string to try out as well as an NSK bearing to try out, I decided to order myself the Topyo Noema to try out. I haven’t found as many reviews for it as for some other more popular yoyos, but the few I found seem to suggest that it’s a very good yoyo, and the price is pretty good.

P.S. I already have an N8 Magic Yoyo, as I noted earlier. It’s a good small yoyo that I enjoy, but as far as my main yoyo goes, I prefer a bigger size. Also, based on the one bi-metal that I have, I like its feel more than the rest of my yoyos. And there’s also the matter of aesthetics, and I have a preference for wider angular H-shaped bi-metal yoyos.

Speaking of string:

Zipline’s are on the pricier side but, in my opinion, they’re so worth it. Their Accel line are good for just about any yoyo or play style.

Anyway, whatever you do, just remember to have fun.

Thanks, I’ll check those out as well. The ones I got so far are Markmount Cumulus Foam Thick, Kitty XL, Eagle Wings Heavy, and Sochi XL. I think I prefer thick strings. They hurt less around my finger and it’s easier to bind with them, and I feel like they might last longer. Plus, when I get into whipping tricks I think it will make that easier as well. But time will tell. I’m still relatively new to the game and have much to learn.

I have noema awesome thrw its stable

I have never used a zipline string or any other nylon. I find it hard to believe that at those prices they make up for the cost. I would like your input on this one.
Markmont site claims that a string can last for up to a year. That seems surreal to me. I yoyo (on average) 1-2 hours a day. Does the durability they claim even come close to reality?

What about the zipline ones? What would their durability be all thing considered?

With bulk Polly I can yoyo for 4-5 hours (kitty) or 5-6 (Sochi) without any problem. How long goes a zipline last you guys?

Thanks for your answers.

Nylon lasts for an insane amount of time.
I’ve tried Nylon strings from 3 or 4 different brands and they all outlast Bulk Poly strings by at least 10x possibly more.

I have a Markmont string (nylon) with the year claim. I don’t play it every day…but I’ve played it a LOT and it’s been over a year easily.

I’ve not tried a lot of zipline.

But in general yes, I prefer nylon over bulk poly by FAR. I’ve also tried some custom poly strings…and those generally also last a LOT longer than bulk polyester strings.

All the markmont strings are 100% poly. They do feel like nylon but they’re tribodal poly wound tight. Good strings.

Huh, you’re absolutely right. My bad. Went and looked it up. Anyway…they do NOT play like any bulk string polyester is my main point.

I will add that the nylon does give a nice plush feel to the string. It also seems to interact with the response pads with slightly more bite. I don’t play nearly as much as most and the nylons I’ve used so far are blended with poly but they do last longer than 100% poly and I’ve migrated to them on nearly all of my throws. Some of my responsive get too aggressive with the nylon so I stick with poly and my loopers take poly.

Lol yeah I absolutely agree about how different they play, it’s kinda wild.

I am a poly fat boy, my absolutely favourite are the Zipline Alphaline and the Sochi Phoenix, both of them are poly bulk and veeeery good in slacks and durability as well.
I keep a string even for 3/4 weeks playing around 4 hours a day or even more, it arrive at a point where it lose colour and softness but still slack like a madman at some point them reach a real point of no return where it is basically impossible to use them for the amount of string torsion.

After those I will put the Monkey finger - Vines another incredibly nice bulk poly, it is just a slighlty less faster than the Sochi and the Zipline but still works incredibly well and last the same as the other 2

If you want to treat yourself as @mrJames said go with the Accel, probably my favourite strings but I have got no money to buy them frequently same for the EP 20/20 another insanely amazing string which is on the expensive side.

I’ve had the same pink SkyLine III (Zipline) string on my PNIR for about two months now, and it’s showing almost no signs of wear, let alone degradation in play. The blends wear faster of course, the polyester not lasting as long as the nylon, but they all last longer than Kitty and Sochi strings in my experience.

Sounds crazy to me that given your high skill ( I follow you on Instagram) you manage to play between 12-16 hours.
After 4-5 hours, kitty is unplayable for me. (Too coarse, finger burns, crappy suicides and whips). Of course, I am nowhere near your skill level, but the duration you are talking about seems out of this world for me.

Kitty and Sochi are better than the cotton string I used in 1984.

Speaking of strings, where can I buy 100% nylon yoyo strings? Especially thick. The only one’s I’ve seen are by Mazal Top, but as far as I remember those might have been a mix of nylon and polyester, plus they require getting stretched out beforehand. Is that the case with all nylon strings? For some reason, it seems that almost no one sells nylon strings for yoyos. I’ve searched a lot and can’t find any.

most full nylon string sellers are from smaller manufacturers. mazal top’s wooly nylon is way too stretchy for me to use, but i know @Basix and @IMArocketman make good 100% nylon from what I’ve used. I prefer blends of poly and nylon, which most people do. check zipline and yoyostringlab for those blends

P44 blends are great I like @p44company stuff it does take a while to get to the states not sure if some of the changes they made recently have addressed that any. also I’ll dig pile onto what @theendofcake said @Basix has awesome nylon and blends and @IMArocketman has pretty awesome blends as well. Also for everyone If you haven’t read cake’s string reviews yet you should. Super informative.

I think the clear rims on a solid ano yoyo were referred to as the polished look for a time before bi metal yo-yos became a thing. Looks bi material but isn’t however doesn’t stop some brands (Watieoboo) from making some bold claims about some of their line of yo-yos being bi metal when it’s all the same al6… just a polished band or rim. Shady marketing when done wrong. Thankfully magic yoyo hasn’t directly or intentionally done any of this even if some over seas sketchy resellers do.
