It’s cool you’re back. Did it feel like 7 years or did it all come back? What got you back?

Only almost 12 years late. I’m Aidan! Been throwing on n off for a good decade or so. Recently got back into the community and am super thankful that I did. Thought this would be a good place to find out what’s been going on since I left. And uh, yoyoexpert is one of the biggest things in the yoyo community so it’s no surprise I found out about it through a few internet searches.

Hi. I’m new to the hobby as of about 6 weeks ago. Got into it randomly after my daughter received the crappiest of crappy mini sized yoyo’s in a valentine’s day gift bag. It was so terrible that getting it to return once was a very significant challenge for either of us. But she was having fun trying, so I decided to go online and order her something decent to play with. I’m the type to research the hell out of every purchase, so that led me all over the place, and got me interested (I had no idea there are so many styles of yoyo and play). Here I am 6 weeks later, really enjoying learning something new. It feels great every time I progress a bit, and I find it is a good stress reliever.

I’m currently mostly using a responsive Sage, and trying to get more consistent with what seem to be the foundational tricks/mounts - trapeze, trapeze & bro, double or nothing, split bottom mount. I’ve pretty much just been rotating between those for the past couple of weeks, hoping they will eventually become second nature. I also recently picked up a Replay Pro just recently, figuring I can start to learn binds when I get frustrated with the other stuff, or want to try something different.

Welcome! Sounds like you are off to a fine start.

Thanks! I’m really happy to have stumbled upon this at this point in my life.

I find that I usually pick up the basics of a skill fast, but then I struggle with consistency and seem to get stuck at an intermediate level at best. I’m hoping I can break that trend with this hobby!

You can. I learned and went intermediate with a Sage. It takes time and dedication but just have fun with it. Welcome to the forums!

Thanks for the welcome and encouragement. I’m really hoping to get to that intermediate level and beyond. Any bit of progress really feels good. I just keep thinking about how awesome it must feel to put together cool tricks in combos like I see in videos.

I really like the Sage. I also have a Whip that I like to try new stuff on first. It’s nice and small and light with rounded edges, so I feel safer. It’s also harder to land on the string, so it makes it feel much easier once I have the motion down enough to go back to the Sage.

This is close to how I got back into yoyos. It was a pretty crappy cheap yoyo, hah. I think i still have it.

Hello fellow throwers, I’m cmoney I’ve been throwing for a couple years now, favorite throws i have are my yyf peregrine yyf hummingbird and my mk1 exia. I decided to get on the forums to feed my collection addiction. To that I say ado and begin my hunt!

I don’t think that you have to worry about getting the skill of yoyoing down. Everyone has their own pace. For instance, some people have been yoyoing for 2 years, and are better then me, and I’ve been yoyoing for 6 years. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy it. Just go your own pace, and enjoy yourself. That’s the point of a hobby. Yoyoing is fun, you’re going to enjoy it.

Also, if any of you newcomers need some assistance, just dm me. I’ll give you a free analysis if you want it. Just tricks that I would suggest learning next to best advance your style. I know that some people charge a lot for that, and I would be only too happy to zoom with you for an hour or so if you’re interested. Just a thought.

Edit: I am insinuating that I would do it for free. After rereading it I realize that that isn’t insinuated, which is what I was going for.

Seriously though, I wasted too much time worrying about what everyone else thought about my style to worry about my style in general. Yoyoing is fun. Treat it as such.

And welcome to the forums! The people here are really nice and helpful. If you have any questions, just post them up and expect an answer within the hour. These people are lightning fast. Just be careful with the bts strands. Pretty much all of the people who post them are ligit, but I was scammed by one, and after a little searching I found that I wasn’t the only one. I know for a fact that @ryanmcg is legit, because I got a edge from him, and you can always check out their feedback strand. If they don’t have one, be skeptical.

I just remembered that you mentioned that you were a father, which means that you are at least above the age of 20, so you probably know this already. But even so. For those of you that are new and this didn’t seem apparent, there you go. Check before you send someone your money. And enjoy the forums.

Might have to take you up on that at some point. Nice of you to offer your time for us. I am definitely going to be looking at the various tutorials in the next few days to pick something new to attempt to learn. I have been using this site, gentry stein, and ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  tutorials. I like to watch every trick I attempt to learn on all 3, as I find sometimes one clicks more than another, or sometimes one of them offer some additional insight that another did not.

That’s a good idea. I wish I’d thought of that. Although, when I was learning, I just used yoyo of the tricks of the .com (the server filters it out like, well, you know.) to learn all my tricks and it served me just fine. I don’t know about yoyoexpert.com. I’ve never used it before. I bet it’s really good though! (Please don’t come after me admins. Just trying to make a point)

Hey, my name is David. I used to yoyo a lot when I was younger and have since lost touch with the sport. Looking to get back into the community and see how it has evolved since I was younger.
