Welcome. I do not know about the Maverick but the T8 is really nice for a cheep metal and of course the Horizon was a great choice.
Just take your time and you will learn a lot.
E.R.L. yo-yos was started a little while back by me and my friend. We yo-yo almost everyday. we have a passion for it. Weāve been doing it for ruffly 5 months now. Our instagram is erl_yoyos we upload videos and pictures daily. Follow us if youād like you wont be disappointed. We will only get better. We got our name by yo-yoing on the boardwalk and a kid telling us that we live an extremely rare lifestyle hence the name ERL. But we never leave home without them and never plan to.
Welcome to the forums
Welcome! Itās fun as you continue to play and find other players ā weāre rare but not too rare! =)

Sounds like you had an exciting start. Welcome.
Hey, Iām an āoldā guy (38) and getting back into yoyoās thanks toy 6 year old son. He doesnāt seem nearly as excited about it as I am but oh well. Heās still learning with the Brain yoyo I got him. Iāve gotten for myself a yyf One, yyf DV888, yyf popstar, Yoyo Magic T5, and a yyf Velocity.
Iām still getting a hang of some of the basic string tricks but itās starting to click. I can land a front mount, reverse mount, and trapeze pretty consistently. Which from what Iām seeing is the basis for the setup to most tricks.
Anyway thatās my intro.
My other interests are bike racing, bmx, skateboarding, music sound tech, blah blah blah
38 is not old! I am 65 and after 4 years I am still getting the hang of it.
Welcome.
Sweet! Glad to see Iām not the only one.
Thanks
Hi! Iām an oldie (but not yet moldy, at 38 ;D).
Started waay back in with a glow-in-the-dark Imperial, but stopped pretty soon after that when nothing I tried on the Butterfly worked, the tiny line drawings in books were never understandable to me.
I just started back up, to de-stress from trying to get into grad school, since video games were too engrossing for me to get anything done. Picked up a PocketPro Zombie (a mistake, that thingās a middling looper), and a YYF Velocity (I can bind now! :D).
My long term goal is to be 4A capable, but right now, I just want to stop string burns when learning boingy-boing.
Hello, my nameās Eric. Iām currently pretty new to yo-yoing. I found this site when I was researching the basics and debating on which I should yo-yo I should buy to start off. Iāve had a small amount of practice in the last month, practicing with some of my friendsā unresponsive yo-yos and so far Iāve got binds and maintenance down pat. Iām expecting my first yo-yo in the mail in a couple of days, Dark Magic II, and Iām pretty excited to start learning with my own. I would appreciate any tips and advice you have for a beginner since Iām pretty much relying on the internet to teach me
Hey there Joey! I have done a few junior Bike races in my town. My dad used to hill climb! Whatās your farthest ride on a bike
Iāve done the Rapha Gentlemanās race which was 150 grueling miles. I also ride to the beach from my house which is about 155miles each way. The long rides take a toll on you when you get older so Iām less likely to do them as often as I used to. Although I still have the goal of riding from The southern tip of Argentina to Panama one day.
Keep up the riding. Itās good for the soul.
Welcome aboard Pad.
Quite a few older guys joining, which is awesome! Next yearās old folk contest is going to be epic! Welcome everyone!
When will that be abouts?
I think youāll be quite happy with your Dark Magic II. Thatās exactly what I bought when I got back into yo-yoing a couple of months ago. I was so happy with it that I bought a H3x as my next throw.
And on the other topic, 47 here. Not quite ready for a cane, but getting there. got into yo-yoing when my oldest was going into kindergarden. We were homeschooling, and when buying the curriculum, a kid was there selling yoyos. After a long hiatus, I found my old Mag 5 star, found this site, spent some money, and am loving it again.
It just ended about a month ago, so 11 months? xD
Niiiice, welcome. =)
Hi! From Tallahassee, FL. New to yoyoing as of a few days ago.
Actually, I played a little yoyo back in my middle school days in the 80s, when yoyos were a big fad. Nothing special ⦠sleep, walk the dog, return ā¦
Interestingly, I apparently learned how to throw the yoyo ācorrectlyā, underhanded. Have no idea where, who or when I actually learned to do it! When I watched an intro video, I was surprised I was throwing it right!
My son was playing with a $3 Duncan Imperial yoyo a few days ago, and he expressed interest in learning more. I told him I had some old yoyos from my days, He was interested in seeing them, so I pulled them out of storage. One is a Duncan Butterfly, and the other is a Duncan Wheels (black with silver trim). The Wheels is in surprisingly good condition from what I remember. I estimate these yoyos about 30 years old.
Anyway, last weekend I took my son to a local store and we found a couple of fairly nice entry level yoyos. I bought a Duncan Freehand for myself, and got him a Freehand Zero.
Iām getting used to my yoyoing again, and have taught myself binding. Getting on the string about 50% of the time. Can use some more practice, but Iām happy with my accomplishment. Figure Iām about ready to convert the yoyo to unresponsive, as I find myself not needing to return from the bottom very often.
