Introduce Yourself! 2023

I really hope so! I’m in my mid 30’s, which makes me feel a bit on the old side for yo-yoing sometimes, but I don’t really care as long as I can learn enough to have a good time with it. Just gotta get the time to practice every day, right?

I’m 56 and there are people here who are significantly less young than I am.

Welcome to the forums! As long as you practice consistently, you should be decent at yoyoing in no time!

Hey everyone! My names Ryan and Im from Northeast Pa. I’m 32. Years ago I threw a little bit but nothing too serious. I bought a fireball like 10 years ago and only stuck with it for like a week. A month and a half ago I found that fireball in my drawer. Next thing I knew I was ordering new yo-yo’s and haven’t been able to put them down since. Im probably not someone you would think would be into throwing. I’m a mechanic with a beard, long hair, covered in tattoos and I can generally be found listening to metal or riding my Harley. I’m secretly alot softer than my exterior would make someone believe tho. My most used throw is my r-type and I bought myself an IQ that I bring out on special occasions but only over carpet. This seems like a great community. Very welcoming and helpful. I look forward to sticking around this time and being a part of it.

Welcome to the forums! There are lots of different types of people who throw and there isn’t a stereotype, at least from my perspective being inside the community. I bet you’ll find a number of people who are just like you here.

Thank you so much! I’m actually really looking forward to making it out to the northeast regionals as a spectator just so I can walk around and meet some people and get to know the community some more. Plus to see some great throwing by the people who are going after those titles.

That’s awesome! Going to contests is a great way to get to know the community better and meet some new people. Plus, you get to try out yoyos while you’re there and you might get your hands on some yoyos that aren’t released in the wild yet!

Where are u at in the nepa area? I’m from ledgedale or lake ariel. A few miles from lake wallenpaupack. I’m actually a boat mechanic on the lake there.

Hello! I’m Alex, currently in upper New Jersey. Every spring for the last 3 years I gotten an itch to throw, but always lose interest by autumn. Signed up on the forums this time around, hoping that a deeper engagement with the community will get me to stick with it longer! Will it work? Probably not!

Ok that’s about an hour drive from me. I don’t get out that way much but I am familiar with it. Hopefully your far away from the college enough that you don’t have to deal with all that craziness.

You are stuck with us now lol. But if it doesn’t work you can always come back every spring when the itch returns.
Welcome all, Please stick around as I am pretty sure Andre Boulay has a more vested interest in the community than Mark Zuckerberg does.

Pick up a yoyo when it interests you. It’s just a fun thing to do when you feel like it. No one here is under pressure to throw all the time. Where in upper NJ are you from? I grew up in Rahway but now live just north of NJ in PA.

Hello everyone! I’m Nathan and I’m from AZ. I got into yoyos about 2 years ago, learned like, a bind, a couple mounts, and boingy boing, and got distracted by synthesizers. A couple months ago I saw a post about Zipline strings since I never unfollowed the yoyo subreddit. I didn’t lose interest but just fell off. ADHD moment I think. Anyway the poster was so positive about the strings that I went and spent 15 bucks on some skyline IIIs and the all black strings they had. Amazing strings, made me want to play again. So I actually started picking up some new tricks. My yoyos at the time were the Sengoku Ashigaru and YYF 44. I haven’t gotten rid of any yet and I don’t plan to. I try not to buy things unless I love them but let’s see how it works out.

I was really in the mood and I had just gotten a 65 dollar tip at work so I went over to Yo-Yo Factory who I am lucky to be local to. Really great guys there it’s always a pleasure the few times I’ve been there. I asked what they had for all black yoyos and he goes into the back for like 5 minutes and comes back with four. I passed on the IQ at 100 and the Switchblade for 70 and picked up the Turntable 2.0 for 50 and the Genesis 2023 for 45. This turntable is so smooth and so quiet. I absolutely love it.

I make my own strings now out of silk and I love how they feel. Making them whatever color I want is fun too. I can make them match my throws!

I mostly play 1a and I just finished figuring out how the Keisuke Shibata picture trick works. I can’t land it every time yet and I make a lot of knots but I can do it and I have landed it. I still love boingy boing and I also love just standing there doing zippers until I have to stop.

My current collection looks like this:

The little plushies I use as counterweights when I feel like practicing 5a. I can 360 and 720! That’s about it though. I need more practice.
The plastic 000 is a ton of fun. I like how it feels in my hand and on the string.

I got some real spicy bois coming in the mail I’ll be sure to show them off once they come in.

I don’t have any trick videos recorded but I am probably going to eventually.

TLDR; got into it a long time ago, learned 4 tricks and stopped. Got back into it this year and I’m going hard this time. Learning more tricks all the time.

Anyway,

Howdy!
