I have one in the Coffee Break colourway and I would think of it as a bit of an oddity, a little distant from the mainstream. It is not a performance monster, pushing the envelope and expanding frontiers. It is a comfortable, mellow recreational object.
It is pleasant. It is lovely.
You are definitely paying a bit for the brand and the Swissness. I have no problem with this, YMMV.
I’ll definitely be giving it a whirl as I’ve heavily been into 0a. I feel like between bearing grease, pairing the right string, and that narrow bearing I’ll have a solid 0a player to the collection, albiet a heavier one
Posted this in the mail thread but thought I’d share here as well, especially since there’s not a lot of feedback or talk about the Handquake 2. This said, I finally got my Handquake 2 and after some minor setup (thicker string, bearing grease, slim bearing), it’s performing exactly as hoped as a modern responsive/0a player. The “dated shape” is actually something I enjoy with a 0a throw, not just because of nostalgia but also performance. Stalls lock in, response is snappy and predictable, and I’ve been able to split the atom without unwanted snags and knuckle bites.
I thought the 61g of weight would be a turnoff and affect responsiveness and/or turn it into a violent chain chomp but it obeys my commands and hasn’t tried to attack me yet. The spikes work great for pull starts, something I enjoy doing with responsive yoyos either as a trick or a fidget (just as I do with my Deepest State).
The coloring is vibrant and the finish feels great for tape measure tricks, something I also enjoy doing a lot of.
