So, I have absolutely no idea on how to design the yoyo axle for my yoyo and I am trying to put in a YYF 10mm axle inside. The hole is 2.625 mm deep but I have no idea what is the diameter of whether its M4 x 0.5 or M4 x 0.7. I am using Autodesk Fusion 360 for this. pls halp
M4 x 07 most of the time for the diameter of an axle.
M4x0.7 but you don’t need to include that in the drawing. Just tell your machine shop how deep you want the hole to be. To determine the depth of the hole you need to calculate how far apart the bearing posts will be once the yoyo is assembled.
Bearing post distance + hole depth * 2 = max axle length
or…
hole depth = (max axle length - bearing post distance) / 2
Furthermore, the bearing post distance depends on the length of the bearing posts (from the seats). Since a C bearing is 4.7498mm wide, the seats will be that far apart. If your posts are 1.375mm long, that means the posts will be 4.7498 - (2*1.375) mm apart, or 1.9998mm apart. So if you want a 10mm axle the hole must be:
(10 - 1.9998) / 2 = 4.0001mm
Add another 0.2mm to give clearance and you know the hole needs to be about 4.2mm deep from the top of the post.
M4 is the diameter and 0.7 is the thread pitch.
Shop drawings rarely show threads. Just call out the hole size (diameter and depth) and threads for tapping.
whoops, thanks for the correction!
