You don’t have to get progressively “better” yoyos as your skills get better. On the contrary, I think you should get the best equipment you can reasonably afford at the early stages of anything (learning to paint, play guitar, or play yoyo). It’s also debatable that the dv888 is a “progression” from the DM2 anyhow.
If it’s between those three, the Genesis has to win. You don’t have to “save yourself” for a yoyo of a particular level. If those are really your three choices, get the Genesis. If you’re hesitating on the Genesis, the other two are totally different from one-another, but on par. Pick the one that seems to suit you better.
“reasonably afford” takes into account the budget you might want to invest in the early stages of a hobby. A new guitarist who wants an electric probably shouldn’t get a $3,500 top-end PRS even if they can afford one. Unless they’re independently wealthy. And then they should. And get me one while they’re at it.
I would say get the DM2 at your current skill level it is going to take the abuse well and the cost is less.
the all metals you are going to ding them and they can get bad vibe or scratched to the point it hurts your hands to use them. The plastic absorbs the shock better to a certain point of course.
I don’t want to be “that guy” but the DM2 is not more durable than a Genesis or dv888. Dings are not necessarily going to be deep or sharp enough to “hurt”, but they can happen on any of those 3 yoyos (DM2 has aluminum rims). Not everybody smashes their yoyos around, even as beginners (I sure didn’t and I’m not even cautious). It takes a lot of smashing a yoyo around to give it vibe if it had none before.
I don’t know. Seeing opinions or hearsay presented as facts will not help new yoyoers.
If you like the DM2, by all means get it, tykie22. I got one as my first “decent” unresponsive yoyo and I still love it. I’m not trying to dissuade you from that choice. On the other hand, I think if you want to and can spend the money, the Genesis is just in a different league from the dv888 or DM2.
Get whichever one you like, though. They will ALL get you as far as you want to go. No “upgrades” from one to the next required. If you get the DM2, you may decide you NEVER need another yoyo (although you may find yourself addicted!!). There’s no built-in “upgrade” path you need to follow.
Yeah any metal is more durable than. Plastic and plastic/metal.
GregP, what I meant was, a DM2 is a good yoyo to start with, and so on.
A DV888 is more of a yoyo for the yoyo player who knows his bind and is doing some intermediate-advanced trick. (Not to say the DM2 is either) and the genesis is an all out pro competition yoyo, that requires a little care IMO.
So the DM2 comes with two bearings to be for the beginner to pro player. The DV888 comes unresponsive out of the box for the intermediate to pro play.
Yyf severe(2012) it is delrin( very strong machined plastic that can’t or maybe ding proof) ,a c3 halo made with same material of the severe but v shape, something firmy is a good metal or get a Dibase.
it’s of course depend on how hard you are whacking the yoyo on the ground. I’m just saying your average hit the natural flex of plastic is going to be a bit more forgiving.
