I wouldn’t buy a yoyo for a child turning 3.
Most kids at that age learn 2 tricks:
- ‘Drag the dog’
- ‘Helicopter’
So glad I made my kids under 5 some yoyos…

Those are the tricks my neighbors son learned when I gave him a Spinstar. He’s 5. I tried to teach him gravity pull but I think he’s too short or the Spinstar is too large and keeping the string really short makes it difficult. I have several Whips and Ones but I am afraid he’d hurt himself.
haha! Those are absolute classic tricks, though. Don’t correct me if I’m wrong, but I recall that these are part of the “trick step-stool”.
And my niece is careful and serious. After all, she asked for yoyo lessons so she might be into really giving yoyo a try. If not, no problem, the small investment is worth it even if the end result is ‘drag the dog’.
