There’s the problem! I lay it in so it doesn’t need to be touched at all and imo when you "smooth"it you compromise the durability of it. A properly filled application of flowable shouldn’t need to be touched as when it cures fully it should shrink ever so slightly. Giving just the right depth granted there wasn’t to much in there to begin with.

I don’t use anything to smoother my flowable silicone when I have no YYR 2009 pads left. Still have to redo it at least three times a week.
Interesting. So you’re telling me that once the silicone is in, don’t smooth it over with a credit card or guitar pick? I’ll give that a shot next time. I guess over time it should just even itself out naturally as best as it can.
