I always travel with some yoyos from my collection and this last weekend I went to my best friend’s house to be at a wedding.
At the end of the trip, I decided to introduce my bud to the hobby and was surprised by his interest. He learned how to throw a breakaway and bind in a few minutes! Immediately I got one of my cases, a bunch of spare strings and surprised him with one of my favourites, the Gravitation 7! He got pretty excited and we kept throwing until I came back home.
And, by the last minute, I sneaked my Replay Pro on his shelf and left for the airport.
I am gifting yoyos to people that matter made my entire trip! Thanks for letting me share this.
I have absolutely gifted yo-yos. And other things too. It does feel really good when you know there’s sincere joy and appreciation. Thank you for sharing.
Yeah I’ve given most of the people I know a Butterfly XT at this point lol! None of my friends or family in my city took to it at this point but I did have some recent success! I just went to Indy 500 with a couple friends from visiting from Tennessee and I brought a couple XT’s with me to give them. They were both into it and their friends from Indiana were also very into it like I got everyone throwing and returning to hand and taught them the easiest ways to restart a dead yoyo. This one woman spent hours playing while we were chilling at the camp site so I’m hoping she sticks with it. It definitely felt good considering how unsuccessful I have been at luring my local friends hah! Yoyo is super fun though and It’s cool to be able to share that with people.
I give away yo-yos, swag, string, 3d printed junk all the time. Some times for events like the YYBC stuff both things I have and things sponsors donated.
I’ve given away a bunch of yo-yos to kids and walk ups at DMV throwers yoyo club and recently had some amazing folks donate stuff that has gone to this effort. Plus I always force the kids at club to take some new string and print knot picks and cw and such for folks to grab at club whenever I can.
I’ve paid to have logos made for club and given that art to the clubs, I keep cheap or repaired yo-yos on me always and if anyone comes up with an interest I give them a yoyo and a QR code to scan to get more resources to learn.
All of my family and friends have been given yo-yos.
A while back I gave some kids with a small afterschool yoyo group at a highschool some yo-yos. I’ve never seen them at yoyo club in DC but I hope they all stick with it.
Heck many folks involved in YYBC including myself helped with bumping up those toys for tots numbers last year. All in all I’m a firm believer in giving back and serving others in whatever way you’re good at.
I’ll also note I’ve been gifted yo-yos and other stuff by folks either on this forum or in my life and every time it’s meant the world to me and I treasure those yo-yos dearly or if I can use them to give back to the community in some way and share the love a bit. All in all I struggle to accept gifts and show appreciation properly and usually that drives me to give more but I truly appreciate those that have gone above and beyond in some way to me and I hope I’ve expressed that properly.
No, but thats only because i just got in. That sounds amazing but given how awesome the yoyo community is, I’m not surprised. When i actually have more than 3 yoyos it will be a practice i adopt
You know, it’s not a rule, and you don’t have to follow it just because others did. Take your time to grow your collection; there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.
You are a blessing to the community, man, keep it up!
Here in Brazil, especially in a small town which is my case, I’ve never met someone personally who got into yoyos and got back to hobby as an adult and after the pandemic, my chances to join a community in person are reduced to zero.
So that was my first time sharing a passion with someone who has been in my life for about 15 years or so and was a no-brainer decision to give him some of my favourite throws.
And again, thanks for being such a generous person for our community.
Yes, I’ve sent yoyos to people expressing a generic interest in some of the types of yoyos I own. Maybe for instance someone said they thought a YYJ Hitman would be fun. They have one now. In a few cases I’ve purchased yoyos online to be sent to people that I felt needed them for one reason or another.
I gifted so many yoyos both in sales as a thanks and with friends. If I have a friend that want a specific yoyo and is sit down on my case unplayed than I used to gift it, it is nice to see an happy face to an unexpected gift, is something I always loved about our community!
Christopher Chunn gifted me a CIVILITY when he was on their team and i wasnt even that big at Youtube yet. It just so happens that i was saving up for one when he reached out to me. I was floored and asked why? He said he just liked my comments on social media and i seemed cool. Still love that yoyo and i never forgot the gesture. Ive gifted a number of yoyos to several people and the kids dont really appreciate what we’re really doing with these things. The adults thō? They love it & i love doing it from time to time. Really really good feeling!
If I meet anyone in person that shows even a little interest in yoyo’ing, I either give them one I have on me or have one sent to them. Hasn’t happened in a while though. Pretty sure I gave someone a Raider a few months ago.
Two years ago I attempted to give every kid a yoyo that I had as a client. Last year just those that showed interest. That’s about 350-400 new possilbethrowers out there. Needless to say I failed at getting every client a yoyo that first year. What was I thinking?
