General Yoyo Thoughts

YYE is becoming a little too much of a BST forum, would be nice if we could keep BST separate somehow
Like an option to hide all the purple posts not sure if that is possible already

I keep thinking how underrated the yyf g5 is. Back in the day everyone wanted an 888 and I got a g5 for price and to be a contrarian. It is still stock and plays like a dream. It has fairly low walls for that time and killer rim weight. I think even today itā€™s a great choice for a pocket yoyo.

A 555 (888-themed G5) was my first metal yo-yo! I loved that thing, got the best of both worlds too, the hype 888 theme but it was slightly cheaper and available. One of my biggest regrets is getting rid of it.

It really is. I have a plan in action to reduce my part in this.

An Australian online store reached out to me and asked to stock my yoyos. They will accept runs from as little as 5 yoyos from me at a time on a regular basis.

This is great, because I feel like Iā€™ve been kinda using the YYE Forums unfairly for some time. You will see far less of my stuff on the BST now.

haha it wasnā€™t a complaint aimed at any one specifically, and having a healthy BST is not a bad thing at all.

Itā€™s just now when I log in, all I see is a sea of purple, and I noooope and back out.

Over time, I just ended up getting less and less active here but now with @MarkDā€™s genius tip, I think I can enjoy it more here now and still have the option to check out BST when I want rather than it being all I see

Agreed. Still one of my favorite yoyos!

After a few years of watching various BSTs, it seems to me that I see more CLYWs being sold off than almost any other brand. Iā€™m sure that, statistically speaking, YYF yoyos show up on BSTs more often, but I figure thatā€™s to be expected given the sheer number of yoyos they make. Why do so many people want to get rid of (so many of) their CLYWs?

I think most of the clyws that show up on the bst are the newer runs that are made in china. Personally I think they have better precision and are higher quality but people tend to prefer made in Canada, USA, Germany, or any place other than China.

To me, clyw doesnt feel quite the same anymore. Iā€™m not saying it has to do with the move to Chinese manufacturing. High quantity manufacturing can be at any spectrum of quality you want. Some of the best yoyos Iā€™ve played come from high quantity manufacturing from China. I think the last yoyo I got of CLYW that screamed clyw was the manatee. I havent tried any of their yoyos within the last year, so maybe something would give me that vibe again out of their newer lineup. I think the pickaxe (if thatā€™s the name of the small chief) would probably if any.

Should I put a CLYW on my list of things to check out when I (maybe) start buying yoyos again in 2022? I was given a Yeti but thatā€™s more of a novelty. Iā€™m talking about metal. It seems like I should own one awesome CLYW metal. Maybe there are cheaper, higher quality yoyos. I dunno. 2022 seems so far away.

Foolā€™s Golds are a decent way to try out CLYWs on the cheap if you see them on the BST.

Fools gold are great! Personally I would recommend a chief or avalanche.

Yes itā€™s been pretty interesting to see how things have shifted with CLYW. Just my POVā€¦ When I first started yoyoing they were maybe the most desirable brand in terms of collectibility and reselling (seemed like tons of LF CLYW threads on the YYN BST). It seemed that the uniqueness of each run in terms of inconsistency in the machining and anodization only added to the CLYW appeal. In other words, each individual yoyo seemed unique in look and feel. Take the Peak, all the different anodized versions, with all the different feels between runs. Heck, I had two different 2nd run OG Peaks and they played differently and were also different by 2 grams! An important downside of the inconsistency is vibe, like the famous Peak vibe, and then later the double rim designs were also probe to vibe so they discontinued those for a while. As CLYW moved to better-playing designs that were manufactured at a better consistency in overseas, they also seemed less unique. Newer CLYW still look cool to me, though their overall appeal changed.

I donā€™t have any old-school CLWYs, but I feel that sentiment when it comes to music quite often. Raw demo tapes vs the debut (mostly a metalhead with death metal tendencies). The raw stuff is awesome because the roughness of the presentation, along with the style, just ticks all of the boxes and makes it something better than the sum of its parts. I bet my personal cassette recordings off of vinyl are far inferior to the CD master, but I still listen to it the most.
