I always went with white. Recently switched it up to yellow but so far I’m not a fan…plus it reminds me of Pittsburgh sports teams (nothing against Pitt…it’s a long story). So it’ll be back to white string with black yoyos for me.
Funny you should ask. Prepping to review my black P40 Warhawk. Love the look of the Bad Wolfe Co. bright yellow poly/nylon blend that came with it. Worn now and more on the way (yes, Bad Wolfe broke my ZipLine loyalty), but it still looks slick.
For pure aesthetics, I generally prefer white on my black throws, but my affinity for high visibility string usually wins out. Right now, my various other black throws have white, bright red, and neon green strings on them.
File your cringe-worthy newb confessions here:
Back in the fall of 2018 I thought frontstyle was the most popular way to throw so I thought One Drop chose their company name because their yoyos were so good you only had to throw them (down) once and you’d get enough spin to do all your tricks.
What random yoyo thoughts did you once have that were pretty far out there?
I buy a variety of colors and then choose a color that looks interesting with the yo-yo.
I don’t know if I’d call it a strategy to not buy yoyos. For me it’s a way of asking if I’d rather spend or save the money another way or for another day.
I ask myself:
-
This or That? New brake levers and calipers for my bike or a yoyo? Biking fast is fun, stopping is not over rated. Brakes!
-
New yoyo or would this bit of cash be significantly helpful in helping a friend or family member?
-
Where’s that dif overhaul? New yoyo what was I thinking?
-
Why am I questioning getting a new yoyo when I know I’m going to do it anyway?
I Yeah I want a new yoyo all the time but always have to restrain myself. The shutter wide angle was like my splurge for the summer
I’ve done this, but my variety of colors is also a variety of different types of strings. I’m very unhappy that I did this to myself I’m always wondering how this string would feel on that yoyo, but can’t stomach the color combo. I wish I would have just bought a bunch of different white strings.
Im with you. I love all the variety of string colors for the variety of color matching appeal, but not all strings play the same and you inevitably end up with ugly color combinations and just sigh. Kinda best to just stick to classic colors except for visually outstanding yoyos.
Anyways, i had a new thought. Everyone has those times in practice where you mess up, but in your desperation to preserve a trick, do something really impressive on a technical level to get it to come back to your hand strung up, but barely. Anyone else experience these moments where you think your save was cooler than what you were practicing? Ive made tricks due to these ‘mistakes’ and I bet that im not alone. Anyone else have similar experiences?
Hey guys has anyone else realized this? Today marks the one year anaversery of Gentry Stein winning worlds!!
Yep. Been getting worlds memories on my snapchat the last couple days. Had such a good time, can’t believe its been a year already
I guess that still makes him the world champ. Hopefully we can see them battle it out next year
I read a post on here a while back about a blind guy getting into yoyo, and today it popped into my head mid yoyo session. So i thought, why not try yoyoung blind? It’s pretty hard. Seriously try it. I could kand basic beginner combos, and almost landed kwyjiibo (second pop landed dirty). As long as you stay on pace and maintain the plane of the yoyo you are basically ok, but it’s easier said than done to be flawless in trick execution. I am interested to hear about other yoyoer’s experience trying this. Just try and land your favorite trick with your eyes closed.
Makes a good tag line : “Gentry Stein 2 year reigning world champion”
I’m so glad I got a Ti Wide Angle again. Only yo-yo I’ve gotten rid of for feeling bad about spending too much on and it’s still fantastic now, probably more so now that I’m not expecting it to be something different.
I’m also switching back to poly from Airetic after months of only nylon. I guess too much of something you like can be a bad thing after a while. And having such long lasting strings means feeling bad throwing them out to switch to new strings so I have old string lying around everywhere.
How can so many people strip their yoyos? I’ve been throwing for roughly 15 years and I have never stripped a throw.
I had my first stripped yo-yo recently. Never unscrewed it and all of a sudden it starts coming apart while I’m playing.
feel like y’all just jinxed me
Never stripped a yoyo. I don’t understand how a screwd together yoyo could strip in play.
Me either, I was very confused. But it was a tester for an engraving from a yo-yo company that I won in a contest and wasn’t in new condition when I got it.
So I have this app on my iPad/iPhone that keeps track of packages I’m waiting for in a nice, convenient interface. Based on what I’m seeing recently, I would say that:
- If the carrier is FedEx or UPS or basically anyone other than the USPS, there is a pretty good chance it will be delivered on time, or at least within 24 hours of their own estimate.
- If the carrier is Amazon or an Amazon delivery partner other than the USPS (often just an individual), there is a pretty good chance it will be delivered with 1-3 days of their own estimate.
- If the carrier is the USPS, there is very little chance it will be delivered according to their own delivery estimate unless it uses Express service, the only service the USPS is prioritizing for on-time delivery right now. In fact, delays of over 7 days in many cases indicates to me that there is actually no way that even the USPS can guess as to when they will deliver a package to your address. It will remain in a state of “In Transit” with “Delivery date unknown” until the moment it is delivered.
If you go to the USPS website they are blaming this on a lack of “available transportation” during the COVID-19 crisis. I believe this is just code for “the current administration is dismantling critical USPS infrastructure and resources, leaving us unable to reliably perform our duties any more, but we can’t say that because being so blatantly transparent would be inappropriately political.”
I am completely non political, but I think it’s time we just privatize the whole deal.
