General Yoyo Thoughts

Just had the worst trick recording session of my life. 30 minutes, 2 strings, a string burn that will take 2 days to heal and i couldn’t land what i wanted to do.

Keep him away from slack tricks. Ninja vanish and stuff like that would be tough with bad DP.

I’m not sure that will be much of a problem. There really aren’t that many side effects options available anymore. One Drop has severely curtailed their production, and what’s left—apart from the few they make for the new yoyos they release—are leftover stock in very few style/color combinations.

That’s also a problem! I don’t want to buy SE if can’t get the full experience.

You’re over thinking it. And possibly missing out on some of the best yos currently available.

I rarely mess with my SEs. And if I do, the SEs that are still available are easy enough [and cheap enough] to source. Unless you want really rare ones like the Antiyo hearts etc.

I seriously doubt that you’d miss out on funding for an entire new yoyo if you went down the path of SE experimentation. Especially if you hit up the BST first.

I plan on getting a one drop at some point but not anytime soon. Never owned one, and I was around for the OG Project dropped. I was happy to see they are one of the bigger names after dropping out of the community for years, they seem like good people and my limited interactions with them back in the day were pleasant.

There’s just nothing in the current line up that really calls to me. The Legendary Terrarian looks good as far as specs are concerned but I don’t like the wide rim W shape. Kuntosh probably appeals to me most right now.

OG Kuntosh is one of the best yo-yos ever made, in my opinion. It’s wider than I typically prefer, but it doesn’t feel super wide in play.

Almost every combo ive thrown in the past week that has ended with enough spin time I do the same bind. Ive been absolutely obsessed with throwing the yoyo into a brother mount, dropping the NTH, and tossing the yoyo to my right to catch the bind. Definitely my favorite easy bind to do at the moment.

I wish theyd make more normal kuntoshes. I like them better than the QVs, and id buy one of them.

I use ultralights on everything :+1:

Keene area. I don’t want to get more specific than that on the internet though. Manchester is a little over an hour from me.

Or unless you want to color-match a particular type of SE to the throw. Colored SEs are becoming rarer and rarer. Notice how the SEs for the latest runs have all been plain silver ultralites? The last time I saw color-matched SEs was with the run of Markmont Classics earlier this year, and I doubt you’ll see that sort of thing happen much in the future.

Is there a reason for the lack of SE options recently from a production standpoint?

Yeah, it is partially because the ano process is really difficult to get right with them. They work with very tight tolerances, which is really nuts when you consider this:

@Durfee this is relevant to your question too.

Yeah, I know they are hard to ano. That doesn’t change how disappointed I am by the fact that I missed out on the era when the selection and variety was far, far greater than it is now.

I might hate off string at this point. Annoying to learn because a miss means having to chase the yo-yo and restarts are eluding me atm. I can very easily do normal restarts but not offstring. And my motivation to learn isn’t strong because high level tricks are just all variations on the same few tricks or concepts and don’t interest me that much.

Same.

My least favorite style to practice

After spending over a week throwing my Alleycat pretty much exclusively, I’m beginning to see just how much Jensen incorporates responsive style play into his 1a style.

So many things are clicking! While it is still full of mystery, his style is becoming less enigmatic to me.
