General Yoyo Thoughts

Monster Edge is awesome. Its design resists precession, which makes it ideal (for me) whenever I feel like doing some 5A. I’m sure it is also good for 1A

I love mine.

I only have 3 One Drop throws: Top Deck, Fat Tire, and Civility which was machined by One Drop for a specific yoyo store that created the design / specs. All 3 have what I think of as the best feel when I bind and the throw returns to my hand. All 3 have, to me, in my opinion, the best and tightest binds I have experienced even when the end of my combo is a little (or very) askew. Why is this? It’s like these 3 yoyos are telling me “I know you’re not that great but don’t worry, I got your back!” It’s not the string either. Whether it’s Kitty fat, normal, Vines, or Markmont (or others), I always get awesome, reliable, snappy, non-hesitant binds. Most of my yoyos are higher end but none of them has as awesome final binds. Any thoughts?

One Drops tend to have two things that many (most?) yoyos don’t: relatively narrow gaps and very grippy silicone pads. This combination yields very snappy binds, which I also love.

If every yoyo came with One Drops pads, every yoyo would be at least 20% better.

You can put them in most yoyos AFAIK.

With that said, flowable is still the way to go for me. Imagine having control over how tight you want your yoyos to bind?

you put flowable in all your throws @hobbygod?

I play with the stock pads and when they fall out i silicone. Sometimes I use pads from my sponsor at airetic if im lazy but for the most part i use monkey snot after the stock pads fall out

Silicone always seems to be crumbly for me.

I never had that issue with monkey snot. I got a lot of yoyos that dont fit standard pad sizes so I flow silicone.

If it fits pads ill toss a YYF blue pad in or… flow silicone still lol. Because like @hobbygod I like to customize how snappy the yoyo is gonna be.

Plus i find flowing silicone kinda fun

I just ordered 3 4-packs of OD pads. All of my Topyo throws: Origin, Nuit, and Impulse all have very One Dropish really solid binds. I never paid attention to gap width specs but @zslane…thank you…I now will.

Be sure to get the “slim 19mm” pads rather than the “standard flow groove” pads. The standard OD flow groove pads are thicker than you want for other brands of yoyos (i.e., those that specify the industry standard 19mm slim pad).

I ordered the slim. I doubt I will use them in anything but my One Drops though.

Ah, okay, well then make sure that the One Drop(s) you have actually use the slim pads. Most of their models use their standard flow groove pads (the thicker ones).

I bought my Top Decks new from YYE and the specs say they come with the slims so that’s what I ordered. I doubt I will need to change them any time soon but thank you for the heads up.

Definitely slims for the TD. Those walls are so thin.

I can’t put my Clique down… All week it’s been coming along with me to work and joining me on my rest breaks.

So, I got a Recess First Base a few weeks ago and have been content to mess with it with the default responsive bearing in. But I recently got the urge to try it unresponsive but can’t get the narrow bearing out. It’s on the axle side and even a couple of attempts with pliers failed - I don’t want to keep trying that out of fear of breaking something. Any thoughts/advice?
