General Yoyo Thoughts

That video was amazing. It made me a Gentry fan after seeing that I saw it with my wife like a month ago and was like wow

This, right here. Look at @Markmontā€™s videos. It seems most, if not all the yoyos he is using are organic, with OD 10 ball flat bearing. Granted, very few of us play like him, but, with enough skill almost any trick can be done on almost any unresponsive yoyo.

Now, when Iā€™m learning the moves to a trick or messing around, trying to create, I will often go with an H or V shape. When I want to clean up the trick and make it flow, organic or responsive are my tools of choice.

Modern day crutch? Iā€™m not sure what you mean by that, so I canā€™t agree thatā€™s how I feel about organics.

I will say that while I generally prefer Hā€™s and Vā€™s at this stage in my play/development, I donā€™t really love any one particular shape way above all others. Some folks appear fixated on (I hesitate to say obsessed with, but maybe thatā€™s not too far off) one shape, and when they are, most of the time that fixation seems to be on organics. I think thatā€™s just weird.

Hatrick is smaller, lighter, and slightly floatier, although I personally prefer the 5 star, both are great

Some folks appear fixated on the accumulation of gear and equipment over actually playing yoyo itself and when they are, most of the time the fixation seems to make them hold strong opinions on what type of bearing and shape is best as though it is fact over preference, I think thatā€™s just weird.

I believe Iā€™m part of this group.
But to me, collecting is a very big part of my love of this hobby.
Itā€™s just another aspect of the hobby that I happen to get a lot of joy from.
I feel like you frown upon this, but I see nothing wrong with it personally.

And that is fine but it wasnā€™t aimed at you, please donā€™t jump into being the victim!

I always knew you was just a big fluffy teddy bear deep down inside!

You are rightā€¦Iā€™m not sure why I got defensive about your comment.
Sorry about that man.

Yesterday I was waiting on a sandwich at a Earth Fare and started yoyoing in line, someone in the back shouted ā€œI still have my fireball!ā€ Props to that guy

I still have my fireball that I purchased in 1997.

From what Iā€™ve been able to see and experience over the years, people end up getting fixated on organics because they are the most comfy in hand and have a certain distinct classic feeling of ā€˜fullā€™ completion when jamming on organic vs a more varied shape.

My fireball is an ornament.

Hereā€™s something that bugs meā€¦

How fades donā€™t line up.
Now I know itā€™s probably not possibleā€¦or if it is possible, itā€™d be extremely difficultā€¦

But manā€¦itā€™d be so much more pleasant to my eyes if they lined up!

Sooo good.

I wondered what was going on. Iā€™ve tried for months to find some specific side effects to go with my Deep States.

Have you tried rotating the axle. The threads might line things better if you rotate the axle. Literally lined up the engravings on my grasshoppert gtx when I did that
