To be honest, a lot of people do not talk to Ernie personally. Think about how hard it is to get a Majesty right now, or even a model 10.
It looks like the Model 10 will not even make it to the store here, that is how popular and limited they are. And that means a ton of people cannot try such a great throw. They are toys, not gold bars. I would love to see Ernie make a ton more, so more people can enjoy his work of art…
This is true with almost everything. But then how would the people paying 200$+ for a dinged majesty feel? This would ruin the rarity and great feeling of owning general-yos.
I am all for the “hype”. But people are buying these things thinking it will be the next Peak. They are toys, very expensive toys. Do I have a Majesty? Yes. Do I have a Model 10? Yes. I am one of those people paying expensive prices for such a throw, but to say that you do not want the community to try such an amazing throw, is crazy. Yo-yoing is all about the community. If we horde these things, nobody will enjoy them. I will let anybody try my Majesty, but never sell it. I do not mind paying that much for such a great throw, but saying that you want even less made does not make sense to me. Hey, I am just giving my 2 cents, but all of us should want Ernie to make as many as possible. More business, more revenue, more reasons to continue to make other throws.
That doesnt mean we can all try them. I have them all too. If somebody has enough money, they can get almost any general yo. There are plenty of ferrari’s, most want to drive one, but hardly anyone does. Why? Not enough money. Not as pricey for a yoyo, but the same point. Not only is it expensive, but hard to get. This is what makes it the best, aside from how good they are.
Okay I will try and swing your analogy. Also, this is strictly my opinion, witch means ZERO.
There are plenty of Ferrari’s. Not as much as lets say a Honda Civic, but there are some. Buying a Ferrari for lets say $120,000 ($120 yoyo world), getting a ding the size of a basketball, then selling for $200,000 ($200 dinged up majesty you mentioned). Ferrari is a company, that makes cars. There are not just 23 Ferrari’s in existence. I know it was a bad analogy…
It is just the way I think. More yoyo’s, More fun!
Yes, but he doesn’t have unlimited time to machine. Like I’ve said before, I sort of picked up that he can only get so much time on a machine. I’m assuming it’s not a money issue, it’s just that his machine shop is very busy. I also assume the efficiency during that time is at it’s maximum, so he’s probably making as many as he can. And I’m going to make my last assumption, that he doesn’t want to find a new shop, for whatever reasons he chooses, but I would assume because they are a very top-notch shop (aerospace travel industry).
So I guess you have a little choke on the supply, but for good reasons. And yes, they are toys, but the demand is high for a reason When supply and demand don’t meet you get interesting results. In this case, we are very loyal hungry customers. Very, very loyal and friendly towards one another. Thus, it would be cool if there was a limited, highly confidential, model created. Just out of nowhere, BOOM! Packages of G-Yo’s hits the hands of dozens of yoyo’ers within days. No span of waiting, just everyone who gets one, get’s one within days of eachother. All the real fans would freak. I would even love if it was over-priced, so it would be even more difficult to scalp, I would certainly pay $200 for it no questions asked hahahaha, but that’s besides the point and we’re getting off topic.
Also, I want more people to try them, it’s just what it is. I’m sure if the numbers per run were larger, everything would still be the same, just on a BIGGER scale, except you wouldn’t be able to get one “as easy as you can now”.
disclaimer: none of this is actual fact except that Ernie does use a very busy but great shop, the rest is just my assumptions and dreams
I want a General-Yop that is so secret that people are afraid to even whisper its name. The Sauron, the Lord Voldemort of yo-yo’s. A yoyo so mega-ultra rare; that owning it actually ruins the experience. It should be a yoyo that the Most Interesting Man in the World; wishes he could even see in real life; the veritable Orgasmatron of yo-yo’s.
Time for me to step in here and say what I think. I have been a avid follower and collector of General-Yo yoyos since the Hatrick came out. I am an Official General-Yo Brotherhood Member. In May I will have been yoyoing for 4 years. Since the start, General-Yo has been a small company, I think it should stick to its foundations and keep on being a small company. General-Yo since the start has made limited runs of yoyos and they should keep making limited runs. To me what makes General-Yo so special to me is that they have limited runs and are very high quality yoyos. For me this is what makes me want to collect them. I collect yoyos from small companies. The main point I was trying to get at here is I don’t want General-Yo making a high quantity of yoyos like YoyoFactory, General-Yo is a small company and should stick with their limited runs. Heck! that’s what makes General-Yo truly special and unique (Also the smoothness and great customer service and many other factors). I think Ernie should just do what he has been doing and keep making amazing playing yoyos. If you want a General-Yo yoyo you just are going to have to be quick in buying one or getting one off the B/S/T. I hope all this hype doesn’t change General-Yo and I hope Ernie comes out with more yoyos that we can all cherish and enjoy for the rest of our lives. God Bless - Moefv
P.S. This is just my opinion guys I do not want to get into a heated argument about it, but we can discuss it for sure!
They are not that hard to get ahold of. The Model 10 sat in a few stores for days. My other hobby is collecting high end knives $200 plus dollars. There are some of those that sell out within minutes of a website posting them up. So fast you get an email saying they are in click the link and go to the site and they are sold out.
I love General-Yo and it did take some time to buy a Majesty. General-Yo is a boutique company and that is part of what I like so much about Ernie’s project. I don’t really want to see something as hard to get as the Magnum was. Thank goodness I did get one. But not till several years after they were out.
