Fixed February Throws! 2023

I pulled out a few fixies from my collection for Fixed February, and so here are my Fixed February Four:

I’ll be honest the fallen44 models I’ve thrown so far are not impressing me as much as the 6th sense. Kind of disappointing… so for my ride home i brought a back up that i picked up in the “rainforest”…

First timethrowing the new mold and its blowing me away.

from the 80’s until now, quality of the molding and assembly, this is the best its ever been imo. I have taken apart a lot of different gens of butterflies and these are built the best.

Back into the Fixed Axel February game!

Thank you @adamantiumpops the 0.010 shims worked with the Bearing blank and the Deeper State.

How does that Deeper State play for you with a bearing blank?

I tried a bearing blank in a slimline yoyo once and didn’t care for it. The diameter of the blank was just too big compared to a bare axle, and I just couldn’t get used to the difference (for fixie play).

Glad they worked!

Mr. Zslane,

I may not be the best person to take advice from. My experience with fixies has been short lived.

My First fixie I played was the Wildwood Gnomad. I only had about 6 days playing with it before I broke it.

Shims just got here about 30 minutes ago, so I dont have a lot of time on it yet.

First impressions - Less Drag on the metal bearing blank using Zipline Poly/Nylon blended string. The Silicon response feels very familiar of the Modern Responsives and returns as I would anticipate. I have noticed string torsion has not been as critical so far as compared to Wood Axel and Cotton.

I got the shim and blank info from Adamantium Pops, who plays this set up on a Deep State. Hopefully he chimes in?

Overall, I really do not think there is a comparison truthfully. I Love the feel, response and quirkiness of the Wood, Cotton and string torsion of the Gnomad. The Deeper State is familiar from playing 0.5A Modern responsive and plays closer to that style, even with the blank.

Basically two different animals.

The Albrije is a hybrid of both, I am not sure how to categorize it yet. I Like the Wood feel, but has a similar performance/feel to the fixed Deeper State.

Sorry I cant be of more help right now.

Sure why not!?

It is not my best performing fixie. You’re correct that the larger diameter blank gets weird. But I like the weird it gets.you have to throw harder, and I already have a tendency to do just that. Fun experiment for sure, but not something everyone will want to keep playing.

This old mold Butterfly was my throw of choice last Fixed Axle February. Back then it had a wooden axle, but I’ve since converted it back to the original. This one’s got a ton of cracks and the halves aren’t quite parallel any more (if they ever were), but I thought I’d pull it out for nostalgia sake.

It turns out I should maybe just keep playing the new mold Butterflies…

After 10 days fixed only these are my current top 4. Will likely change by the end of the month lol.
