Only beech and white oak in this run, I’m afraid.
I built a light box for taking product photos, so now all my yoyos are getting lightboxed! Here’s a tea tree boon.
@Glenacius_K enjoy your yoyo… in the white void!
TMBR Morrow
How do you like the cherry wood @Exmime? On paper It’s a pretty soft wood. How is it in a yoyo?
Its lighter and it does feel softer than maple. It also seems to be patinating quicker as well. So it plays light and soft.
It’s a beautiful wood for sure. Can’t beat North American woods.
Too bad. Loving that purp!
When’s the drop time?
My weights in at 47g, the YYE site link has it at 39g, might be typo @YoYoExpertGarrett
I think you’ll find that this particular wood would yield a Morrow in that weight.
Contour gauge for the win! I have a kind of neat one with a lock on it that’s super useful when I’m turning something that I can’t make a standardized template for.
The Morrow is such a slick yoyo.
The maple one I have is just perfect but I have a soft spot for cherry wood. My grandfather had a cherry tree in the backyard I used to sit under when I was a kid. I always think of him whenever I see cherry wood furniture or something…
Ahh memories.
Unrelated to this topic, but can I see a picture of your lightbox? Did you use a design or design it yourself? I’ve been wanting to make one for a while.
Now that is cool! I haven’t seen one like that before!
Not expensive! Something like this:

I based it on ideas I saw online. I have three LED spotlights set up now, and I added a third window on the top. The windows are covered with parchment paper.
Such a cool lightbox! Great job @MarkD!
Fantastic! Yeah I’ve looked a few online designs but the photo you took above looks awesome so I wanted to see your specific one.
Hi everyone. I’ve been lurking this thread and the TK appreciation thread the past couple of weeks, but am finally taking the leap to post in the hope that you guys can help me with a question. I’m trying to figure something out in order to inform my gift buying for my husband"s upcoming birthday. Please forgive any incorrect terminology - I knew nothing about yoyos before last week.
To preface, my husband had a No Jive 3-in-1 back in high school. He believes it was an early vintage - it came in a green box. He and his yoyo were absolutely inseparable and he became quite good at yoyo-ing, taught himself all the tricks, and yo-yoed daily…until a “friend” stole it. He was heartbroken. He bought a replacement No Jive at some point (with the BC packaging), but he said it wasn’t the same as his yoyo (I think he said the balance felt different?) and he never used it beyond trying it out. In fact, in the 15 years I’ve known him, I’ve seen him pick up a yoyo exactly once (which is a shame because he’s really good! & he seems so happy yoyo-ing).
Lately he’s been expressing interest in yoyoing again (primarily because he wants to teach our daughter). He seems interested in the TK SB1 and the early Flying Camels (I have one of each coming in the mail). He prefers to throw in the classic / not butterfly configuration. I know he’d love another No Jive like his, but we’re both unsure whether another green-boxed No Jive would feel the same as his first one.
I’ve noticed that a lot of people here have sizable TK collections, and I assume those collectors have thrown multiple No Jives. I’m wondering if the early No Jives that came in the green box have a different “feel” than the later BC ones? I’m also wondering how likely it is that a replacement, early green-boxed No Jive would have the same feel/balance as my husband’s old yoyo? Or are their differences in balance/feel among even the early vintage No-Jives?
I’m reluctant to drop $80 on the green-boxed No Jive for sale on eBay if it’s only going to be a disappointment. Any advice?
great photo! but it’d be better in a lightbox bro.
The older boxed ones Burnt Orange or Green are a little different than the What’s Next BC versions. The older Tom Kuhn’s had a higher level of quality control. That one on the auction site looks minty fresh, hence the high “Buy it Now” price tag. It’s definitely priced higher then some of the others that have been trading recently, but it looks like it’s in almost new condition, that’s the antique collectable market for you.
