Fixed Axle February-WEEK 1

Yes. I think of it in terms of “if I threw the throw dead center straight in front of me, which way do I move my hand off the center line.”

With all this help and instruction, I am going to be a pro by the second Tuesday of next week.

In all seriousness, thank you all for the coaching and help!

How’s the gnomad playing now after you got some time with it?

The question has never been about the Gnomad that Mr. Eric made.

But the noob throwing it is coming along. I have added some chapstic to the string loop and am trying to keep the torsion on the string on the “tight” side.

It is behaving more as i was expecting now. Again this is all in the user, learning, than the yoyo itself.

I do have to say, The finish on the yoyo with hand juice, vs. Freshly sanded is coming into its own finish. Loving it.

My goal is to atleast get the Trapeeze Stall posted soon.

No doubt, Eric’s yo-yos are phenomenal. was just hoping the maintenance side of things for fixed axle was clicking with you, it’s a learning curve for sure.

Very nice! Welcome to the forum.

Cool shed/barn in the background, BTW.

Absolutely Sir.

I really appreciate the help.

I find the explanation of the “Why” that has been given really backs the “How” of the recommendations. This is the true sense of learning, take the “Hows” and utilize/modify to my liking because I understand the “Why”.

I want to make sure everyone understands; this is a Peronell/Ignorance issue not a Equipment issue. Mr. Eric’s yoyo should not be considered at fault in any way.

Is that a Moonshine with a Luftverk blank?

Nice! I keep my blank in my deep state with some thin dif shims.

Deep state and deeper states play so good with a half spec or bearing blank and shims. Aside from from my rbc my deeper state is my most consistent 0A yoyo.

Can anyone supply more information on Bearing Blanks and shims?

I am asking for a friend  (LOL)

A bearing blank is a piece that is the size of a half spec c bearing that doesn’t spin. Essentially it turn a bearing yoyo into a fixed axle yoyo. Shim are very thin pieces that go behind the bearing to widen the gap of a yoyo. They ki da fell out of use once yoyojam disolved.

So going through my Yoyo parts, are these the Shims? If memory serves I got these a long time ago in the YoyoJam era.

They look larger in diameter to the Luftwerk Bearing Blank (Dont remember where I got it).

Are the shims needed? Can I just put the Blank in a C-Bearing Slimline?

From earlier in this thread; Moonshine and Deep State can be used.

What other slimlines are popular for this “Conversion”?

Thank You

So the shims are needed for the deep state, but not all throws.

Those are not shims. That looks like the spacers off of some older yoyofactory plastics. Shims are much smaller.

That’s fantastic I was thinking about doing the same thing. Can’t wait to see that in action!

If I’m being honest it has not been my favorite setup. I need to experiment a bit more and try different string. I might also silicone it, but I’m unsure what effect that will have.

That was my experience as well I took an old bearing I had and glued the balls making my own blank.
Just a try of course and I didn’t really like it… But I just assumed it was because of how I went about it.
If the blank was a little slimmer perhaps…
For me my favorite setup on that yoyo is a silicone grease it plays really well like that for me.
It’s definitely worth experimenting more
