Fixed Axle February 2024 - Week 1

Well the spacers were cheap, but shipping was not.
But i placed the order and it says delivery in tomorrow, so we shall see.

Thanks

It will be there. The shipping is high I will admit but they absolutely knock it out of the park that way. Some cheaper envelope style shipping would be more than acceptable for such a small metal piece but they only offer the one option.

Not that it will help you but I just sent them an email telling them a little about our community and the use we’ve found for their products. I admitted that we would never float them into the next tax bracket but could they still see fit to offer a less expensive shipping option. We shall see indeed.

They just sent me a note that they will not ship to me in Canada, and cancelled the order.
I won’t write here, how i feel about them now!

Thanks for sharing but I will note that this spacer is not the same size as the stock mr85 bearing. The width is 3mm vs. 2.5mm. I used to play a 3mm blank but I found that 2.5mm with a thin (regular thickness  - vs thick) string plays more consistently with little to no kickback. Also the inner diameter is 5.3mm, which may be a bit loose for the bearing post.

This I had not looked at or considered. I do apologize for your exposure to that. I don’t have much hope for my email now.:weary:

Edit: They are unable to ship via envelope due to meeting their customer’s needs. Those were the words. I love it. As a customer I expressed a customer need for a less expensive shipping option. Go figure. Worth a shot though.

@Canspin65 - the mr85 bearings that I use have c clips that hold in the bearing shield. But if they are pressed in, I have removed those before too. You have you pierce them with a pin and then use the hole to leverage and pry them out. I wouldn’t worry too much about damaging the inside since you will be seizing the bearing anyways. Also note that you need to clean the bearing of any oil before gluing.

Alternatively, you live in Ottawa yes? I could send you one, I still have one left from my listing. Send me a pm if interested.

Thank you for sharing that. You are correct. The 3mm was the closest available and that .5mm can make quite a difference. Do you mind sharing your experience with the spacer in question. I ask this because if it will not work as well then I’d like to go ahead and remove it from the recommendation list and search further to see if there is another option out there. Thanks

I do hope to have solid stainless blanks made some day. But I don’t have the funds to back a run right now and I worry about it coming back with off tolerances. Honestly though, the mr85 bearings are already the perfect size, are easily sourceable and work just fine once glued.

Sorry, I haven’t used it. I actually meant that I previously glued a 3mm wide mr85 bearing and used that for a month or so until I realized that the original 2.5mm width was better - I just needed to change the string pairing.

Got you. You bring up a very good point about tolerances as well. Especially around the post. Slip in that area would vibe the whole works it seems. I ordered some MR85’s that had the rubber covers that didn’t have clips and they just popped right out. I decided to save the OG bearings because of possible tolerance differences from different manufacturers.

It’s very difficult but possible. I also did it with a spare RBC bearing from YYE. I used a sewing needle and tried for about 15min before finally lifting up the C clip ring that holds the shield in place. The C clip is so small that at times I thought there wasn’t one.

Could not land the guest trick. Could not get the yoyo to stop falling out of the stall and then I ran out of time to post.

First three tricks:

String change, last trick:

I had magnifying glasses and needles of different sizes and a couple hours of frustration.

And the bearing is still wearing its shields! :joy:

lol I can empathize with the frustration. Maybe if you just tap a small carpenter nail into the shield and pry it off from there. I mean, you’re about to fill the bearing with adhesive anyway.

That’s about what I’ll have up here shortly.:grin:
It looks beautiful where you are. Hope you’re enjoying yourself.

This may help if you are unaware. It will be hard to see on such a small bearing but the clip is angled on its ends. And each end has opposing angles. In this rudimentary drawing you can see which one you want to go after. Hope it helps.

I felt the same way even with normal bearing use. The gap was just wide enough to cause a little bit of kickback

I tried so hard to get an interesting looking dismount but this is all I could get before extreme frustration set in.:rofl:
